Unfortunately, we will never build more Raptors. It just won't happen. If we would have simply ordered another 100 while the line was still open, we'd be in a much better position, air supremacy-wise. We'd have replacements for attrition and the per unit cost would have been a little lower.
That ship has sailed and it's never coming back to port. Now, if we would just order more Super Hornets will every known improvement (engines, avionics, radar, etc.), the navy would be in a good position for years (decades?) to come. As far as the air force is concerned, it would be interesting if we would buy brand-new F-15s (the line is still open for them) with all the newest tech available for them, too. |
