1997 tech beats 1958 tech?  Impossible, I say!

So now we have manned fighters flying interference for unmanned drones?  Seems like a great plan.

I flew those later that year.

T-38s and the similar F-5 "killed" plenty of F-15s too back in the day during mock dogfights. Yet no F-15 has ever been lost in actual air to air combat, racking up an impressive 100+/0 kill ratio over its opponents. The more sweat expended during training, the less blood expended in battle. No T-38 is a match for a well flown F-15, much less a well flown F-22. But they are good enough when in capable hands to stick it to an inexperienced Raptor driver who hasn't yet learned his lessons. And that is the point of training.

How many thousands of air to air fights every year? Things happen. Rare. F5s have gunned Raptorsbefore. Lose sight, lose fight.

Unfortunately, we will never build more Raptors. It just won't happen. If we would have simply ordered another 100 while the line was still open, we'd be in a much better position, air supremacy-wise. We'd have replacements for attrition and the per unit cost would have been a little lower.

That ship has sailed and it's never coming back to port.

Now, if we would just order more Super Hornets will every known improvement (engines, avionics, radar, etc.), the navy would be in a good position for years (decades?) to come. As far as the air force is concerned, it would be interesting if we would buy brand-new F-15s (the line is still open for them) with all the newest tech available for them, too.

X has limited sight lines out of bay mounted launchers like the 22 and 35, the real advantage is on the Viper and Eagle.  The Viper can get um off boresight very well when they are out under a Wing but nothing competes with the 120.
