WTF is the police commission?

Is the the Justice Department oversight committee or some shit.

Well no matter, Oakland has been, is currently, and will continue to be a shithole, especially with shit like this.

Nothing new. An example of an attempt to diversify the citizen review board, no doubt. Also seen in attempts to «ban the box» when asking prospective employees about past felony convictions. Because doing so is seen as holding those poor felons back from their rightful place in life, dontcha know

Lol. In California, being a police officer has nothing to do with a "commission".

Like others have said, this is some namby-pamby SJW feelgood "advisory board" looking for dirtbags who can tell the police that they're keeping those poor criminals down, and that criminals wouldn't commit crimes if the mean ol' cops would just give 'em a break.

Poor OPD is already understaffed and heavily overworked.  They used to be a real kickass agency too.

How is that a thing? The prohibition on felons and firearms is a federal statute, and as far as I know there are no exemptions for police.

That's like asking pedophiles to have a say in child abuse prevention.  When it comes to law enforcement, it's the norm.

Felons can't possess firearms per federal law.  Is Oakland trying to bring back Andy Griffith to fight crime?

"Commission to Oversee", basically part of a Board that will review police officers actions, conduct, use of force, etc.

What's so surprising about this? It's California. Besides, the D.C. Police was doing this back in the 90's with great results, as would be expected. D.C. police had a case where they had a witness against one of their local gang members in a murder trial who was murdered by the gang before the trial. The gang got the witness' name and address from a D.C. police officer who was a convicted felon the D.C. police actively recruited and hired.

D.C. police did this. I don't know how they got around the federal law either.
