Did I make it in before the bullshit post from Snopes?
Good shot. Fuck snopes' mental gymnastics |

Funny how the YouTube link never seems to work on things like this.
Almost like YouTube doesn't want you to share it |

Fuck Commies, if Loan was alive today I'd buy him a fucking beer.

Came here to disagree and post up the same photo.
Apparently we agree. |

I saw it when it was televised for the first time in 1968 while Tet was still going on. I was 12 and it was the first time I had ever seen anyone die. That POS dropped like a sack of shit onto his left side. The film showed the blood shooting out of the right side of his head. I knew he was VC and such there was no reason to save his life. What's funny is that because of a "want to buy a revolver" thread, I've got my 649-1 right here next to me.

General Nguyen Ngoc Loan
The family was from one of his chief aids IIRC as head of the South Vietnamese National Police. I met him once and shook his hand at the Eden Center in Falls Church. I even had to report it to Security as a 'random foreign contact'. |

From the photographer Eddie Adams

Also guessed it'd be this photo...I'd always liked Eddie Adams' photos, but years ago, after hearing of his take on the photo, his friendship with Loan and his defending Loan's action at every step, nothing but respect. Its gotta really suck taking such an iconic photo and have it almost universally taken out of context.

This. The picture was not "misunderstood," so much as it was "deliberately played as anti-war propaganda" by the liberal media in the United States. I would have shot the son of a bitch in the head myself. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

Good shoot.
I've heard the backstory, and seen the pic a zillon times. But never really noticed it was a shrouded S&W .38 |

I knew what picture it would be before even clicking this thread.

I got in country about a year later. I never took a prisoner. I saw what the commie scum did to villiagers. Did I mention I never took a prisoner.

The one good point in that campy 1968 war film called "The Green Berets". Col. Kirby played by John Wayne was asked by David Jansen why the VC prisoner was being rough handled amd Col. Kirby replied, "Out here due process is a bullet."
While that film is often roundly panned for its quality, that point stood out as being the truth in showing how ruthless the Viet Cong were to the local citizens. The South Vietnamese had no time or patience to deal with the villany of those people. |

Its weird to think about that guy and about what that picture ment to me growing up.
I thought that it captured the brutality of human beings, which after reflecting on it is nothing compared to what ISIS does every single day. The picture that I have the most difficulty with is the Napalm Girl photo. Every time I see that it fucks me up Combination of everything I've been brought up to protect, exposed and hurting beyond imagination |

My uncle was there, has a shoebox full of pics, several are moments just before the shot.

In before topsecret tells us that all truth comes form the Deep State, NYT and WaPo and that anyone believes anything else is a far-right wing nut job conspiracy theory.

I already knew the story behind the photo, but it's good to be reminded about how dishonest and manipulative the Liberal media can be.
