A little more than you want to pay I think but I just picked up a HP Envy, pretty decent laptop. Main uses are work and time wasting.

Understood.  Just to be clear, you can still use the keyboard and a mouse even if it has a touchscreen.

<I knew I could say that without getting poked in the face with your short arms>

In your price range, I'd be pretty tempted by this.

Asus i7

Or this:

Asus i5

Would it be easy/feasible to upgrade the Ram in the i7?

I got this

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DT4A2R4?tag=vglnk-c102-20

Screen kind of sucks but it is replaceable but I like it and its my second Acer which I've had good luck with. Intel i5 6200, Backlit keyboard, DVD-RW drive and a decent Nvidia Vid card with 2gb and a m2 SSD with the option of adding a second HDD.

My neighbor is a programmer, and a cheapskate.  He doubled online for a while and told me to go buy this one.  So I did

I just got a 13 inch Inspiron and love it.

God help you if you have a problem, question, need customer service or need to use the warranty. Go to the Dell forum and see for yourself.

I got an extended non Dell warranty a couple days after getting mine to be on the safe side.

And never ever order directly from Dell.

Maybe they are all like that now. I wanted a surface pro but the Dell was cheaper. I haven't had a problem yet and I love using something made for Windows 10.

I got a touch screen because I use both touchscreen and keyboard on my surface but I keep forgetting about it

I like Dell, and always buy from their DellOutlet.com ....

Then, don't forget to use a 30% off coupon code that is usually found on Slickdeals.com

I got the Dell 5558 for $300 shipped about a year ago...was a great deal...don't know what they go for now.

Good luck, and ALWAYS wait for a sale and use a coupon code.
