Time to go. If you've seen my trip threads before you know there will be lots of pics.
It may be a while before I can update again but pics will come. Promise. |

The weather is still pretty nice, especially at night. I seem to recall it's been about a year since your last Philippine's posts, the only thing that have really changed are more Koreans and more traffic. The exchange rate is running about 50:1 right now so that's a plus although prices have gone up on some stuff as well.

I went there twice last year, my wife is from Cebu. Have a safe trip!

Have a good time Zack. I can't wait to see the photos. I'm looking to acquire a D500 soon as well. I gave my daughter my old D200 and bought a V1 thinking I was over the SLR. Nope, speed is everything. Be safe man.

I have arrived safely and hotel Internet is up. Rest time now. Will star stories and pics tomorrow.

Welcome to the worst neighborhood in Chicago. Your going there for what? vacation, pleasure? |

Can you get pics of Jeeps. Specially the 6 wheel versions! Have fun and I am guessing you will be diving while there View Quote I don't recall seeing many 6 wheeled jeeps around. I'll keep an eye out though. Diving will of course happen eventually but it's a rather low priority right now. First job, gf is sick. Gotta get her better. Second job, find a house or apartment. Third, we need to get to work and get some money rolling in. We may do a few dives locally as schedules permit but the next few months at a minimum are gonna be hectic as hell while we are trying to get everything up and running. |

Nice! That's in the cards for us down the road. My wife is from Cebu, she owns a house there now for her mama, we may build another one south of Cebu City for us. Whereabouts are you? View Quote We're staying in the metro manila area for now, we need to have easy access to fast Internet art supply places etc. Once we get some solid income coming in, we will likely relocate to somewhere more rural. |
|
Wow no shit you decided to move there? What are you going to do for income? Are you planning on living there permanently?
|
|
How do firearms work there? Both for you as an American, and her as a local?
|
|
Nice. I went there about three years ago with my mom to visit family over there. I had a good time, even though I was sweating my balls off. My mom is going back next year, and I was planning on going, but my finances are needed for other things at the moment.

How do firearms work there? Both for you as an American, and her as a local? View Quote Filipinos with no criminal record can buy them, expats can't anymore. Lots of places post no firearms signs; usually just a cursory wanding with a hand held metal detector and a pat on the small of the back along with a quick peak in any bag you happen to be carrying. More places like malls are starting to install walk through metal detectors but since you don't have to put your keys or watches in a basket they go off all of the time- security theater. Lots of illegal guns around but you really don't want to get caught with one; for his faults, Duterte has really put a dent in police corruption (read paying off the cops for infractions) and the immigration office has cracked down on doing background checks every time you renew your visa- commit a crime and it shows up and it's out of the country you go. Novel idea I know. You can still go to ranges and shoot lots of stuff though including full auto. |

View Quote If safety is your TOP concern then yes the PI isn't the best place to be going. It does come with a degree of danger to it. You're a gringo with no rights, and lots of them disappear all the time and no one GAF. That could be you and there's not a whole lot you can do about it if you get caught up in something serious. |

The winter weather is coming up soon but otherwise, its great. My brother is there now on a church mission.
I plan to go next year. |

The Philippines is north of the equator; the winter (what there is of it) is on it's way out and it'll go from tolerably warm* and quite pleasant at night to hot as hell during the day unless it's raining- except in the mountains such as Baguio where it can be cooler or further south where it'll be hotter. *It's 88 degrees right now in Clark @ 4:24pm but there's a decent breeze. The breeze is nice except that I just had the yard raked yesterday and now you can't tell. |

Congrats on the new adventure.
Best of luck, and keep us posted. |

Drink a pitcher of Mojo and Bullfrog for me. Pound a few San Miguel's too. Hope all turns out well for you.

Breakfast update! We ate at a small carinderia this morning. Good food, cheap. This is the place we ate. Can't see it here but around the side there's a few tables hidden to the left and behind where the people are standing. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/56693/IMAG1216-159656.jpg One side of the offerings - Pictured here are salted fish - tuyo on top. Next on the left a spam like meat loaf - maling. In the middle we have fried eggs - prito itlog. On the right, hot dogs but not quite the same as the ones in the US. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/56693/IMAG1212-159658.jpg The other side of the offerings - Pictured here are tuyo again, prito itlog again, on the left, another kind of hot dog, more maling, and then some sausage - longganisa. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/56693/IMAG1215-159660.jpg Here's our bill. 2 gigantic cups of rice, 3 eggs, 2 maling, 2 longganisa, 1 coke and 1 sprite. total 133 pesos or about $2.65 US. Seriously, it was more food than we could eat. Also included at no charge were condiments and all the water you could drink. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/56693/IMAG1214-159662.jpg View Quote Bottled? |

I like the longganisa. I really like bisteksilog for breakfast, though. Sarap!

Bottled? View Quote At most restaurants you just ask for "service water" and there's no charge. It's water in a glass from the big carboys of purified water, same as you can get in the States. Bottled water usually runs eight to twenty pesos for the typical drinking size depending on where you are, a whole carboy is forty peso; the peso to dollar is about 50:1 right now. |
