It does seem redundant to have a FOID and CCW card. If you have a CCW you should not need a FOID

IL should have a no-quarter ID card too. I would support a FOID card if it acted like a CCW card, where you can buy a firearm without the waiting period. |

What pisses me off is the cards are practically identical except for the color. They use the same picture and everything as your drivers license. However, when you want to change your address, they charge you $5 for the FOID and DL, but $75 I think for the CCW.

Hate to be disagreeable, but: 1) Taxes went up temporarily because lawmakers didn't have the balls to face constituents. That "tax decrease" was due entirely to the sunset provision on a tax increase. 2) CCW was forced on the legislature by a 7th circuit court decision that forced them. Without which it would have never happened. |

People forget that the FOID card was originally sold as a simplification to purchasing firearms in IL. It was supposed to exempt the purchaser from background checks and waiting periods since you were "pre-approved" with a valid card and a background check to get it.
Well the Chicago folks didn't like that and it has ended up just being another layer of red tape added to impede 2A rights. |

I visited IL a couple years ago when I went to Simpson Ltd. I always pictured IL to be a unfriendly gun zone, but what I found in the area I traveled was far from that. IL is actually a gun friendly state that is run by idiots in Chicago.

Good luck.
I was asked for my ID in an Indiana Wal Mart. I said, with my greying hair, I am obviously over the age limit. Can't sell to Illinois residents without a permit to purchase ammo. WTF. Showed my Indiana DL, that was all they needed to see, and bought my stuff. Broke my heart. First I learned of the FOID card. Absolutely heart breaking. Absolutely, undeniably, government control of the right to keep and bear arms. Small arms ammo purchase needing a .gov issued ID. Broke my heart. Good luck to Illinois residents. |
