This song comes across my Pandora feed, and some girl says that she didn't know I liked Depeche Mode. I said that I didn't know that it was them, but I liked the song.
I always thought of it as 80s chick music, but this song was good. Like, western movie good, like some cowboy comes back to his cabin and finds his wife and kids murdered by outlaws, and this music plays while he's ridin' range, chasing down the bad guys, and blowing their guts out with his .44-40. So, here's the song. It's an acoustic remix of the original. Depeche Mode - Dream On [Dave Clarke Acoustic Version] URL for the embed challenged. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4Jh0CPKwoE Sounds like some cowboy music, right? So then I check out the original version. Yep chick music. Depeche Mode - Dream On (Official Video) Again, for the embed challenged, Earl sends his regards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dgrMSTalZ0 So, are they just shitty 80's music? Are they only worth listening to when someone fixes their shit by redoing or remixing it? Is there anything of their original shit worth listening to? |

Ok, a couple of you like them. But does that first version sound like some good western movie background music?
And if they have some good stuff that I missed, what is it? |
|
I don't wanna sound like a queer or nothin', but I think Depeche Mode is a sweet band!
|
|
When I wasn't banging my head, I was listening to them and other bands of that era like Killing Joke, The Sisters of Mercy, and the like.
You can take the man out of the 80s. but you'll never get the 80s out of the man... |
|
A lot of other singers have done covers of their songs
they never do them like Depeche Mode very good band watch some of there live stuff on youtube , personal Jesus , enjoy the silence , policy of truth , just to name a few . |

Their earlier stuff was the more inspired imo. Their style had to evolve and they followed the same diluted sound path that most seminal artists seem to follow. Just not a fan of later material in almost any artist. Kind of a death throws searching for relevance sort of thing. The irony is this period is when they have their greatest commercial success.

They threw huge gay orgy parties with goats and hostage negotiators.....FACT
|

I think they're legit
Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again (Official Video) (Heard on Episode 1 of The Last Of Us) |
|
Depeche Mode - Sister Of Night DEPECHE MODE - THE LOVE THIEVES Although I agree that their earlier stuff is better, there is something about 1997's 'Ultra' that is special to me. The band members were in the depths of some pretty fucked-up addictions and other personal problems, and yet, they pulled off an incredible album. |

View Quote That was ok background music (which is good, because I'm in a dart tournament right now and can't sit down and watch a video), but there was nothing unique enough about it to hold my interest and make me want to listen to more. |

Love depeche mode.
That first song sounds western cause it's acoustic. Depeche mode is a synth/electronic band. So it sounds wrong. Listen to the violator album, that's depeche mode |

Back in the day, a combo of Depeche Mode and Cure tunes were guaranteed panty-droppers

Ever heard "New Dress", "People Are People", "Black Celebration", "Pipeline" among others? If I cared about politics I'd stop listening to Rage Against the Machine. Ministry, Meat Beat Manifesto, Killing Joke, Megadeth, Anthrax, The Doors, Buffalo Springfield and pretty much every other musician and singer that EVER existed, |

Maybe more like The Yeastie Girls or Lords of Acid. But yeah, the original song might be good for land grabbing. Did you think you were going to inflame me with that post? |

They have a place with me when the mood strikes.
They have some good songs. Puts me back to my HS days when I hear them. |

Shit, OP, i will go you one better.
I like Erasure......and I ain't ever gay. |

Failed To Load Title Huge DM fan here. Already have their new album pre-ordered through Amazon and am eagerly awaiting the US tour dates. Exciter is probably one of the worst albums to judge them from, OP. As stated, Violator is really good. I am also partial to Songs of Faith and Devotion. Really, I love pretty much all of their albums, with the possible exception of A Broken Frame, which is the weakest - and they acknowledge as such. Exciter doesn't get as much playtime for me either, but more than ABF. |

Depeche Mode is over represented in every Miata pilot's music collection.
J/K I've been a fan for a long time. Violator is a masterpiece. |

Ok, well I listen to most kinds of music, from current to the 1920's and everything in between. I've often heard of this band (mostly on here) but I don't recognize a single song. What gives?

I'm 48 now but I have some of my best memories of my youth with hot young chicks back then with DM in the background.

The music of my youth,
I don't want to start Any blasphemous rumors But I think that God's Got a sick sense of humor And when I die I expect to find Him laughing |

Time for memories....This was my introduction to DM. This documentary and it's accompanying double album were just masterpieces of the band at their height
