This Is What F-22 Engine Startup Sounds Like

Watching them do fake dogfights over Pogo Mine, Alaska and shooting off countermeasures whenever they had a lock was so fucking cool.

Bad ass video!

Thats a tiny plane.

Aside from the APU start, that's pretty weak.  That aircraft has one of the most distinctive ground-idle / taxi sounds imaginable, and none of that was captured in the video?  Weak sauce.

Nosewheel steering controlled by the rudder pedals.

Id assume rudder pedals that are linked to steer the nose-wheel.

Is the APU a 4 cylinder Mercedes diesel from the 1980's? Cause it reminds me of my '82 240D starting.

They seem like they're the size of an F-15 watching them out of Tyndall. They seem to just float when landing. I guess that's thrust vectoring.

They look like lazy fliers to me. Maybe it's just that it enjoys being in the air so much.

look up some vids with WWII aircraft.
F-15s, F-22s are huge next to a  P-51 or P-47.

Why couldn't we have built more F22's instead of the F35?

The F-35 is a much more capable aircraft. And 3 different planes.

A better question is why was the first time we used the most amazing air superiority fighter in the history of mankind in anger, it was doing multi-role strike against cave men.

It's funny, most of the same reasons that were for stopping the terrible F-22 program are now being used for the F-35.

That is NOT the sound of an F-22 engine start.

It is only the sound of the F-22's APU starting.

You can hear the engines start in this video.

Except for the TPM start, an F-22 engine start is weak sounding compared to an F-15 start up.

the original number was 750ish, which went to 380ish, which went to 187.

and let's not turn this into a "why don't we restart the F-22 line" thread.

Nope.

It is a turbine engine rated at 450 hp built by Honeywell/Allied Signal.
