Put an appliance up on Facebook market to sell it for the first time Friday. What a fiasco.

A few people commented, one made an offer at 66% of asking price, another said they were interested, and then this lady said "I'LL TAKE IT. CONSIDER IT SOLD!!"

Ok cool, so I messaged her and said it's hers at full price. We exchanged numbers. Here come the onslaught of texts. Turns out she knows my dad and uncles and a million other things. She also said her opening is 27" and not 30" and asked if I could help her with that. I said I'm not a carpenter and can't help her out with that. She wanted to buy it anyhow.

Long story short, I deliver it to her house today. She didn't want to come check it out or anything. And she was out of pocket so she had her daughter meet us. Had about 20 steps to go up. Narrow door and a maze of furniture. Got it set where she wanted it out in the middle of the kitchen until someone she knows can come over and modify her cabinets. Really neat old house though. She's done a lot to fix it up.

6 hours later I get a text. "This range isn't white it's off-white"

WTF? I don't think I've ever seen a pure white appliance. Another onslaught of texts about how it's actually biscue (sp?) or almond.

Would you consider this a white stove?

ANd in the future just use messenger so they dont have your number.

I have a pure white stove to match my cabinets.
Buyer beware but you could have saved yourself some trouble it sounds like. I wouldn't even reply and def wouldn't go drag it back.

That is considered white and I'm in the white goods repair biz. There are only a few colors for newer ranges, almond isn't one I have seen for decades, just like avocado. 99.9% is white, [the range posted is white, it'll list the color right in the model number, usually at the end, abbreviated], black, and SS.

If she didn't inspect it the that is 100% on her once it changed hands. I'd bet that the real issue is she found out the PITA it will be to widen the area it is going into. She is going to find out 27'' ranges are few and far between in the used appliance market.

This x100. I always use a google voice number when selling online.

Regardless of the color, it was her responsibility to check it out before money changed hands. At this point it's her stove.

Crappy lighting, but that looks like off white to me (my stove and refrigerator are white).

She should have checked it, but you should have had an accurate ad in the first place.

That being said, she needs to suck it up.

Whenever I use craigslist to buy or sell anything, I always use a burner number through a free texting app called "text free". Then, after the deal is concluded, I go into the settings and simply change the number to something different. Knowing that I wont need to contact them again and not wanting them to contact me again, its worth the 10 seconds of my time.

It's white. I would imagine some manufacturers have different hues, but that's white. I think she found out how much it's going to cost to modify her cabinets and wants to return it because of that.

& Slate is the bestest new color.

She probably found out how much of a PITA it was going to be to change cabinets.

Additionally, depending on the age of her house, some 27" older ranges were the old 3-wire 240v & older yet, IIRC, were 20Amp 120. So in order to use your stove she probably has to do some major re-wiring.

Did you notice what the recepticle looked like?

Well I guess she's giving it to her son and said she won't back out on the deal. So that's good.

I told her I had someone else wanting to buy it if this deal fell through but sounds like her son wants it.

I offered to let her daughter take a look at it before I pulled it off the trailer but she didn't. And she didn't say a word about the color while we were there. I didn't notice it not matching her cabinets.

To the people that recommend using a burner number. I have a Google voice number I always use for Craigslist. I don't know why I didn't on Facebook.

Hopefully she leaves me alone now.

Tell her the range identifies itself as white. It used to be a toaster and off white but it now identifies itself as a white stove.
