I'm mostly seeing it as a way to free up an entire corner of a room.
The PC, monitor, desk, chair, etc take up a good bit.
Only thing is that this PC won't die.
Had it about 8 years now.
Anyway, have you went to strictly a laptop or tablet without regrets?

have fun finding a desktop these days.

I am posting from a desktop now, but I also have a laptop with a wireless mouse that I use.

I started using MacBooks almost 10 years ago, highly recommend.  iPads are great accessories for me, I couldn't use one w/o a laptop.

You couldn't pay me to give up a desktop computer.

I would tolerate a laptop with a mouse, just tolerate.

When my last laptop failed I went back to desktops.
First, I didn't ever take my laptop with me because smartphone and I didn't need whatever was on my laptop when I was mobile.
Second, my laptops just didn't last as long as my desktops and when they failed they were almost impossible to repair (my desktops are easy to repair or upgrade).
Third, performance per cost for me is far better on desktops than on laptops.
Forth, I don't have a space problem - I have two desktops setup in two different rooms in my house.
But that's just me and I realize that laptops are the schnitz for others.

Nothing will ever beat working on a desktop

Laptop and tablet are for lounging around

If you're not PC gaming or doing other CPU/GPU intensive tasks, then you really have no need for a desktop.

I have not used a desktop at home for three or four years. It was a little weird at first but it worked out.

Laptops are great if you don't care about performance VS cost or durability.

I use 2 monitors on my desk top. I'll stick with this set up.

Do you have trouble walking and chewing gum at the same time?

Windows based desktops on Amazon

Laptops plugged into monitor, so best of both, but using the laptop without the monitor
except for when needed for portability would send me back to a desk top. Panasonic TOUGHBOOKS
are powerful enough and last long. Get them on Ebay

What do you do with it?

I prefer working with a large monitor any day and the ability to have multiple monitors. Desktop always wins in terms of processing power, whether I do CAD at work or video games/streaming at home a desktop will always run smoother.

Ever since I bought my Galaxy tab s2, I gave up using my desktop.  I'd say I use my tablet 98% of the time now, to the point where it's a chore to have to use the desktop.

I could do this when I had a laptop with a real dock also. Can't beat multiple monitors. New laptop won't dock so stuck with small screen. It sucks.

Fast desktop with large monitor, wireless mouse and keyboard to lay back in the easyboy. Wireless keyboard is much nicer than a hot laptop in you lap.

I prefer laptop over desktop these days. But I'm not doing anything crazy on it. I usually just surf the web and stuff while on my couch watching tv. Or when I go to work it's easy to take my laptop. Laptops these days are plenty powerful to take care of everything I need it to do.

All of this! I just spent $2200 on a new machine and have no use for laptops other than my work Surface Pro 4.

We have both around the house.  I find myself gravitating to the desktop.  couple of reasons;

Work/School.  Something about sitting down at the rig puts me in a more focused state.

Gaming. ( I keep it tuned up, as I pretend that one day I'll return to hardcore raiding)

It's easy to upgrade, I can get ALOT of years out of one and fix issues easily/cheaply.

Get both.

You can spec a laptop to do whatever you want.  You can set up a docking station with monitors and keyboard for serious needs.

I'm a computer nerd, and I've been on a laptop for years.

A tablet is strictly for light computing, to me.  I have one, but I doubt I would exchange one for a laptop at this time.

For the average person a laptop is fine. But if I had the money I'd still own a desktop. Faster, can be essentially noiseless, better screen = better for movies and picture screening, best option for media consumption by far. And no battery to worry about.
