Weather guys on the live report saying the smoke is showing up on radar and making it look like rain.
They're expecting 40-50mph winds at least until 2-3am. That's a lot that can happen. Rain expected in about half an hour. |

Wow that wind is blowing like a sumbitch. All kinds of first responders headed down the parkway that direction. Yep, got some friends going up now. I figured it was a few trucks from local towns going to help. |

Thanks. Was looking for that. Did you see the Park Vista video from the lobby? Those people are trapped inside. Saying the winds shifted before they could get out. Parking lot on fire. https://www.facebook.com/wxnotifications/videos/1799171540295616/ View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Not gonna help when the air you need to breathe is a couple hundred degrees! |

There are, IIRC, 22x 500gal propane tanks on top of Mt. LeConte. Luckily, they should mostly be almost empty as the season just ended. Winter care taker is the only person up there. He posted to the blog this morning.
Friend sent me a pic from his house of a fire on Bullhead, before they evac'ed. |

Damn those videos and pics are crazy. I was a little worried staying in our cabin last week. Would have been screwed had the woods around us caught fire.
Be safe, hopefully the rain will help you all out. |

It's horrible. My aunt has her home and a bunch of cabin rentals on the mountain that's right in the path. She posted a video of the road they took to evacuate and it looked like a scene from Dante's Peak

WBIR live update says rain is reaching Knoxville as of 9:40 pm.
Also have reports of a fire in Townsend on Bradley Mtn. |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile There's only one way up and one way down from the hotel. And it's a small steep mountain road. Tweets from someone inside saying their cars are gone in the parking lot. The vid shows the fire at the fire pit just outside the bar area. Lots of wood beams on that side of the hotel. |

Had a big fire up in the GWNF a few years back and now it's beautiful there and has some really good turkey hunting so there is that. Fire is part of the cycle of life as far as a forest is concerned no matter if caused by a arsonist, campfire, or lightning.
The last time I came out of the GSMNP a couple of years back I was appalled at what the area looked like compared to 25 years ago. Damn shame what the Pigeon Forge/Gatinburg area was allowed to become. Looked like they stuck tacky chalets on every knob in the area. We did not even stop it was so much of a letdown. That said I hope there is no loss of life and peeps heed the warnings. No use getting incinerated over a rental chalet. |

They are sending fire trucks and firemen down there from the Tri Cities (N.E TN) area.

Getting a good soaking here in W Knox, hopefully you guys are getting it by now.

They have moved them to the back of the hotel and are generator power now.

We have a couple of friends that live in Maryville, both retired.
They bugged out this morning to Chatanooga(sp), still waiting to find out if they found a room there. I hope the area gets a lot of rain, the good folks of Tennessee can really use a break right about now. |

Can't thank these guys enough. They were fed a good meal in Maryville for Thanksgiving. A bunch of guys from an Apache reservation out West coming out to help. They got their work cut out for them tonight. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CyZctKZUAAAt4Fx.jpg View Quote We've had guys from AZ, AK, FL, MO and a few others here in Western NC. Hopefully this rain will free some up for TN. |

Sweet Jesus. Hope the rain gets there soon. it's pouring here right now just north of Chattanooga, so hopefully it'll head that way too.
