By Examiner Staff on November 8, 2016 10:09 pm

Politicians at the local and state level are speaking out about Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s success in the polls as Election Day surges into the night.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee was unfazed by Trump’s strong showing.

“California will still be California,” Lee said. “San Francisco will be a beacon.”

Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom called Trump’s rise “a national disgrace”

Supervisor Jane Kim, a District 11 state Senate candidate, said San Francisco will need continue fighting whether a Republican or Democrat is in the White House.

“It just means that in a city as progressive as San Francisco, that we’re going to have to continue to fight locally,” Kim said of a possible Trump win. “We’ll continue to do that with a Republican or Democrat in the White House.”

She added, “Sanctuary city is going to be a big concern. Funding for public schools is going to be a big concern. Funding for affordable housing is going to be a big concern.”

Their is a chance- though maybe not a big one- that the next Attorney General will start filing civil rights actions against California as a state and many of its cities/counties individually for violating peoples 2nd and 14th amendment rights.

Not saying it WILL happen, but there is a chance this will be used to get a case before a supreme court filled with 1 to 3 trump appointees who support the individual right interpretation.

Gun control needs to be treated just like Jim Crow.

To be fair, most of the funding should exist from a federal level anyways.  No need to be spiteful, just shut off the spigot altogether.

Don't say never. Look how many states  that had to be desegregated by force in the 1950s and 1960s voted Republican- the party of Lincoln, the party that freed the slaves, and militarily occupied them for 12 years- yesterday.

California needs to be forced to respect gun owners rights like all the former Confederate states needed to be forced to respect the rights of their black citizens.

Sure, but that wouldn't solve the sanctuary city problem.

One of the major problems we face is illegal immigration. To get that problem under control we need to change incentives, and sanctuary cities are examples of perverse incentives that help drive the problem.

While most of the money flowing to states and local government from the feds is fundamentally unconstitutional, that isn't a high priority problem at this point, in the manner of immigration. We are way out of wack in following the Constitution that by itself, it is like using a bandaid to fix an arm that's been cut off.

also, edited your post (red) since I think that's what you meant.
