It's that time of year again and I'm preparing for Halloween. I have been warming up the old costume getting ready and I just happened to have a tin of Altoids sitting there. I thought, what the hell, let's see if this shows anything so I blew sober, then chewed up a bunch of Altoids and it read about 0.06.
I know that there is a required wait time between food, beverage and blowing in a traffic stop, but if my observations are correct, this not only shows that old rumor about chewing gum, eating mints, et cetera to be false, but that my tester actually read higher than 0.00 even though I had not starting drinking yet tonight. |

Thank providence Altoids don't throw sparks like mint Lifesavers do . . .

Been a while, but I think those things detect hydrocarbons or some shit like that. Not just alcohol. All sorts of stuff will set them off, skoal, food stuck in your teeth, recently puked, oral health problems, and sounds like altoids also. |

Maybe your still drunk from breakfast. I was like "Seriously?" Guessing he was totally hammered, and just a bad day that started with a shitty decision, or more likely, maybe smelled a bit of booze, maybe showed some small signs of intoxication, but otherwise seemed pretty normal, maybe a little irritated. |

Maybe your still drunk from breakfast. I was like "Seriously?" Not surprised. There was a woman who had gotten her SUV stuck in a ditch when attempting to make a 180 degree U-turn from one two lane road to another two lane road that was divided by a median. Most people could do that easily, it is not a busy road.. She was DUI. Anyway, she got the wheels stuck in mud, and prceeded to floor it until the tires caught on fire. The fire department arrived before I did. She said she had two glasses of wine. This was the early evening and it was still daylight out. She blew in the 0.2#+ BAC back at the jail. |

Maybe your still drunk from breakfast. I was like "Seriously?" My brother went a solid year without EVER being below 0.3. When he'd get up around 0.45, he'd hit the er, her a couple of banana bags, and a bottle of Librium, then head home for more wine. |

Why do you have a breathalyzer? View Quote There are lots of reason why "normal people" would buy one. Maybe he's got a kid with history of alcohol abuse and wants to spot-check him. Maybe he wants to check himself and call a cab if he's close to the limit or a guest is on News Years Eve. Hell, maybe he's just curious. It's not like they're hard to get. You can get them from Amazon.com. They have $20 cheapos I wouldn't trust up to $200 fuel cell models that offer the same accuracy as the police models, only they're built for light duty and not 100 samples a day. |

30 minute observation before the intoxilyzer. Different than a PBT and considered the official value when booked.

Quoted: What are you using to measure blood alcohol content? Some devices will measure a false positive with organic alcohols. Menthol (pictured below), present in Altoids and other mints/candies/gums, can show a false positive. Most devices, and of course blood specimen samples, do not. http://www.chemspider.com/ImagesHandler.ashx?id=1216&w=250&h=250 View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: It's that time of year again and I'm preparing for Halloween. Is this an actual PBT device or some keychain novelty thing that you can buy at Spencer's or Brookstone?

Maybe auto brewery syndrome?
If you have high levels of Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast in your gut, it may be converting sugars into alcohol. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auto-brewery_syndrome |

I had a guy walking around Walmart drinking from a shout bottle of vodka at 11am. He tested a.410. he was arrested the previous night at .390. this guy was a pro. |
