My ex was 5'3" and maybe 120#.

My current girlfriend is 5' and around 100#.

Not even my Carbon-15 is/was easy for either to handle...

Any suggestions?

Oh! And BOTH are left-eye dominant - right handed!

Thanks!

I was thinking more of long arms, guys! LOL

Maybe sub-guns or something - rather than carbines?

Current gf is about 5'4" and wanted to do everything by herself. I suggested she try a .38 to start with as she might not be able to handle the recoil of anything larger. She goes to the range and tries a couple different revolvers. She calls me a few hours later and tells me she bought her first pistol! It's a revolver! It's a .357 magnum!! WTF, says I?! Yeah, says she. She tried the .38 and thought it was cool. Then one of the guys at the range she was renting pistols at said she should try the magnum and fell absolutely in love with the caliber. She is really good with it too. HMMV...

I pick guns for my wife in the same way I pick her panties, bras and shoes.

Which is to say, I don't.

Have *her* find the weapon that most comfortably suits *her* and your life will be better.

Anything anyone here tells you, even if it's a slew of glowing endorsements, will still only be endorsements for the women they worked for.

Guns are like underwear, kitchen knives, shoes and a few other things. They are a completely subjective choice.

Scorpion evo SBR with micro dot.

4'11 90lbs and can hit steel with it no problem. 30 rounds of fun, easy controls, no recoil, lightweight.

I arm myself. A basic AR with an adjustable stock is fine, and I'm 4'11". She just has to get used to handling it and get comfortable with it. A lot of the "I can't handle this" is usually more "I'm unfamiliar with this and am psyching myself out."

Take her to the range that rents guns or a gun store and let her pick out the gun she likes, or you life will be hell, guns are personal and hence should be picked out by the person shooting it.

This would seem like a solid option. Also, maybe a sig mpx, but that might be about as heavy as a lw ar, idk.

Built a lightweight AR.  You'll spend more for lighter parts but oz equal pounds and pounds equal pain.

One of the ladies in my life is 5'3" and she handles a 16" pencil barreled no-frills AR15 without any trouble. Needs practice for accuracy, but she can operate the weapon.

The other lady is barely over 3' tall and just turned 4.

My wife actually asked me to buy her a bulpup tavor after handling one. I bouhgt her one of the x95s the other day and she can actually hold it because of the rear balance. She has more training to be good with it yet, but she can actually hold it up for long amounts of time. Its a good start.

SBR 12" with the lightest barrel profile you can find.  The less barrel weight and the less far it is away from the shooter the better.

Screw gimmicks like the Carbon 15.  Get a Noveske PFM barrel or something similar.  If it's too loud get a mini suppressor.

Lightweight 14.5" AR

I'm left eyed and right handed.  I shoot rifles with magnified optics right handed and red-dots and irons lefty....usually. I shoot pistols right handed but with my left eye.

She is 5'4", shoots and AR15 with adjustable stock and a S&W 469. I thought it was odd that she preferred a full sized grip and then I put 2 and 2 together.

The GF packs a CZ75 in the car.  She prefers it to her Kahr, b/c of the long trigger pull on the Kahr.

The Bersa .380" won't stay on the shelf @ work.  We sell out & have to wait for a new one.  A gun that can be operated by just about anyone is a 9x19mm 1911.

My little sister would have to gain a couple pounds to meet the U.S. Army minimum requirement when she's at marathon training weight. She has a Galil for her militia rifle but used to have a Swedish made G3 and carries a Browning P35.
Lots of women think an AR is too heavy for them but hell, lots of full size men think 7.62 recoils too hard too...it's largely mental.

For someone who legitimately has difficulty with weight and recoil an FN PS-90 is a really good choice for a home defense arm, especially if proper length. Recoil is minimal, they handle easy and are stupidly easy to shoot.

My girlfriend doesn't own a gun, but has spoken several times in favor of wanting to be able to protect herself and be able to win a gunfight. My advice to winning a gunfight is: be sure to have a gun.

She has put it on her to-do list. I'm not her mother, and I'm not going to pester her about it. When she makes the decision that it's important enough, she'll tell me and/or act on it. But then she knows with some confidence that around me there's always at least one or two guns nearby, so maybe that affects her urgency.

The wife tried a few of my AR's.  Said the were too front heavy. Built her a 14.5" pencil barrel with 1.5" perm attach flash hider.
Finally found a Mag Tech upper/lower set.  Topped it with a Primary Arms red dot. She likes it.

Situational Awareness:

1. Perps like to target women who are loading/unloading groceries from their vehicle.  I taught her to use the windows of her vehicle like a mirror so she can see what's behind her.  But also, to always be scanning for possible threats.
2. Once, she was alone loading groceries when a homeless guy began walking directly toward her.  She immediately stopped and went into her vehicle.  I taught her to drive over/into any threats if need be.  Whether she would do this or not in real life, I have no idea.
Homeless guy knew he had been outed and pretended he was just passing by.
