Pretty funny.  When she says "I don't work out that much" most likely means "I don't work out." Her body language and expressions as the test progresses are hysterical.:

I wish ARFcom had a like button.

Stair stepper is the only real challenge. Technique makes several of the other events easier than they appear.

Give her the job. Make it so her entire list of job duties includes hanging around the station in PT garb (two sizes to small) and making sammiches.

CPAT is a joke.

They made the FDNY switch to this because too many people couldn't pass their physical.

I've seen plenty of guys fail that test. The 75lb weight vest is no joke on the stair climber. That alone usually weeds out the fatties. Usually there's no in between...guys fail on the first event or they make it through all of them.

It's at least related to firefighting activities though.  Better than a few sites ups and push ups.

I never took the CPAT and all of our rookies told me how hard it was, especially the stairs.  That did not look hard.  I'm retired and I could pass the test in the video right now.  Did they leave something out?  Is there a height/weight  adjustment or something?

My first physical agility test way back in the early eighties required that you wear long pants and boots.  All events were timed. The first event consisted of picking up the dummy, carrying it up 3 (maybe 4) flights of stairs in the tower, place the dummy gently on the ground in the designated space,  hand over hand hose bundle raise to the balcony and then lower it back to the ground, pick up the dummy and take it downstairs placing it gently on the ground in the designated space. Then the timer stopped. Failure to gently place the victim in the designated space resulted in a
fail BUT you could retake the event immediately from the beginning.  Then on to the second event.

Other departments tests involved timed 1.5 mile runs, 100 yard sprints, wall obstacles,  ladder raises,  ladder climbs, aerial ladder climbs,  dry hose pulls,  charged hose drags, timed swims, timed obstacle courses and much more.  Every test was different and tailored to the requirements of the individual departments.

eta And I had to walk to work, barefoot, in the snow, uphill.  Both ways.

Passed it many times.  Unfortunately I had colleagues who wouldn't have had a prayer if they had been forced to retake it.

I would be willing to provide her with additional hands on training.....

56, still on the job, I think I could pass that.

Not as hard as the Combat Challenge I took to get hired.

I've seen some huge fatties trudge their way through that too. As others have pointed out, I've also seen some leave in an ambo.

One of the only times I've been beat on the pack test was by a 120lb chick. She was a fellow hotshot, and she is insanely strong.

For about 3 years I was on a dept that was about 25% female.

Workouts were mandatory each shift and a great gym was provided.

2 times a year everyone did the combat challenge.

The fastest female was always slower than the slowest male.

Average male time, 3-4 minutes.

Average female time, 12-15 minutes.

They have to take that test before employment?

Don't they get unlimited time to work out at work?  Why be in shape before the job?

Oh I know. It was a facetious comment.

Look at how hard some departments fight the IPAT.

Wildland recertificies annually, why not city?
