I haven't watched many "old" movies.  It was good, and now I understand a lot more avatars and memes.

What are some other older must-see movies?

The Bedford Incident

Anything with Mel Brooks, Gene Wilder, Rick Moranis, etc is a good start.

Young Frankenstein
Blazing Saddles
History of the World
Spaceballs

Same goes for the Monty Python movies.

So if she doesn't get on my lap right now, she'll regret it?  Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But soon and for the rest of her life?

Damn man...you must be really young!!
As sited before now watch Fail Safe which is a far more serious movie of how bad the cold war was and how hot it really could have been.
And it really could have been.

This.  Somehow I missed this on TV as a kid.  In high school the local art house theater showed all kind of old stuff (before video recorders).  I had never seen it but went with some buddies.

I'm sitting there watching it, thinking what a miserable movie it is.  All it the screenplay does is use every cliché in the book.

About half way through the movie, I realize I am watching THE BOOK

Has anyone suggested The Godfather?

Oh, and 99.99% of modern movies suck ass. Old movies are the best. (And I'm not that old at 37.)

The Bedford Incident rocks, Richard Widmark as a hard bitten destroyer captain during the coldest of the cold war, with Sidney Poitier.

Hell Is For Heroes rocks too, B&W WWII movie with Steve McQueen at his most badass.

I guess that depends on OP's age, but Dirty Harry isn't much newer than Doctor Strangelove.  Heck, some of the youngsters probably think Terminator 2 is an old movie!

Yeah, I saw the film in triptych on the big screen too... with Carmine Coppola (yes, that Coppolla's father) conducting the orchestra.  Great soundtrack.
