I know it is sci-fi and all but how would you even go about building one of the Destroyers of that size? This does not mean I don't want one.

Yeah, I came really close to buying the $400 Lego super star destroyer a few times.
It really is the coolest space ship.

Don't get me wrong, I love Serenity, she's a beautiful ship...but she's not a starship.  She spends all her time in one solar system, and isn't capable of interstellar travel.

Beautiful line of ships from an ugly time... To bad the Brits couldn't just disable to Tirpitz, would have been a neat monument..... Bismark I get, needed to die, the Tirpitz never left the fjords as far as I know...

The great thing about star destroyers is that they are the do it all workhorses of the Empire. They can act as battleships duking it out ship to ship against enemies, deploy ground troops with aerial and orbital support, blockade planets and systems, and deploy fighters.
They are probably the most versatile ships in the science fiction universe.

All the Star wars ships are iconic... the x-wing is my favorite.

The Star Destroyers are up there. The Millennium Falcon ranks higher, imho, but the SDs are great because they're so brutally efficient. Angles, no curves. Look like a dinosaur or shark tooth. The designers did amazing work evoking not just cool shapes and designs, but also ideas that tap into your consciousness and grab you.

You don't have to know the Empire is a threat to know that the gray, desolate wedge menacingly hovering in space is bad news.

And yet the ship with the worst backup control systems.  When the main bridge is taken out they'll wander aimlessly into the nearest battle station. A ship that big, and nobody in the engine room has any controls over where the ship is heading?

The reason why Star Destroyers in their various configurations embody FIREPOWER is because they are a composite Naval Battleship in Space with an ages old weapon design that has been with us for a long time.

They will penetrate your star system and give you a good reaming from Palpatine.

VSD and SDF-1 are my personal favorites.

The Defiant was a neat enough ship design but it could have been called the Desperation because it only happened when the writers and producers realized that DS9 was getting hammered by a little upstart program called Babylon 5 and its truly epic story arc and purpose-based ship design.

The Defiant is stupid.  Either this little ship was really that powerful and made the rest of the fleet look like chumps because every other race in the alpha quadrant didn't think of making a ship that small that powerful, or it make the rest of the fleet look like chumps because it was typical Star Trek handwavum when the script needed it.

The books suggested that the Emperor had been influencing/controlling/coordinating the fleet and once he died they lost effectiveness due to the lack of his influence (sort of a mental withdrawal).
