A buddy down the road from me runs a small ag equipment shop from his place. He saves shipping pallets for me and when he has a trailer full for me he gives me a call and I swing by and get them. My brother and I use them to stack firewood on. Well I picked up a load this morning and then swung by the gas station for a cup of coffee. Had a stranger approach me and asked if I would sell all of them to him because he uses them for "repurposing" (whatever that means) and can't find them anywhere. He told me he hasn't been able to find any in months. Neckbeard your pallets boys, the storm is coming.

I didn't sell him any, that would be fucked up to take them from my buddy for free then sell them like that, in my opinion. I did take his number and will give to my buddy so he can sell them to him if he wants.

OP, not to sound like a jerk but why you no like money?  Repeat after me......."There's nothing wrong with selling something you got for free".  Call that Hipster up and TAKE HIS MONEY for you and your buddy's trash!  Then if you feel that bad about it go give your buddy half the money as YOU EARNED the other half by brokering the deal, get it?  You way of thinking is why the poor stay poor son.  MAKE THAT DEAL, you buddy would have but he has a business to run and I gaurantee doesn't have time to be selling pallets.

I grab about one or two a year from random dumpster pens, or from work (bigger servers come on a pallet) and cut them up (for exercise) to eventually burn them in a fire pit or at someone's house.

Among my friends, there is a distinct string of "durr did I need wood to have a campfire?" so a guy that shows up with a car full of wood is welcome.

Some places there are lots of them available, some places there are not.

I used to work at Home Depot, we would receive freight on the blue CHEP pallets.
We had a semi-trailer that we would fill full of just the CHEP pallets.

When the trailer was full a guy from a CHEP contractor would pick them up.
We had to count all of the CHEP pallets we put in the trailer and Home Depot would get credit for those pallets.

We also had a trailer that we stuffed full of the regular wood pallets, they were reused or recycled.
We had people come through the back lot all the time and take pallets, most of the time they wanted the busted up pallets to burn for bonfires.

We get product shipped in on CHEP pallets too, several truckloads a month. It takes forever now to get them to pick them up because no one wants them.

The reason pallets are getting harder to find is because less stuff is shipping on them.

Several of my friends have chicken coops made entirely of pallets, some made them from Seadoo shipping crates, and the little house I have for my goats is made from the crate a semi-truck front end came in. (Local auto body place was going to burn it).

I also have a couple different types of pallet chairs behind the house, where we BBQ and have our burn pit. My daughter painted some of it blue, and bought cushions for them. When the family is all here, we have some nice times sitting out there.

Yup, all those are $40, except the DTOM which is $60 since it takes her so long to paint them.

I get a shitload of chemical free rough cut oak pallets of all sizes at work daily, we toss it all in a dumpster but some of the guys have taken them home and made some dame nice stuff with it.
my garage used to be filled with broken down pallets and one year when I had a garage sale I was selling the wood by the piece and made damn good money.

Years ago when I worked for Dupont they had custom pallets made of oak. They cost  $175.00 each 20 years ago. They had to be HD because of what a pallet of Automotive paint weighed and all the screws they were put together with had to be countersunk 3/8". Those pallets were no joke.

LOL....We would give vendor pallets away to employees but they would try to sneak a oak one or two out....I was always running peeps off the pallet pad.

Needs some vintage look wheels on it. If I didn't have 25 other projects needing to be done I would line the inside of my garage with pallet wood, or just old wood in general. Would like something that could take abuse without looking all jacked up.

There is a lumber yard near me that puts out all it's broken pallets and other wood they can't sell for people to just take away.  I have built plenty of barricades, roof tops, swinging platforms, parapets, tank traps, and all sorts of other props for the local practical rifle group out of this wood.  All I pay for is the deck screws to assemble what I build, there is even a painting business that puts out it's unusable paint for people to take for free...  So I get free wood, free paint, buy a few screws, and the practical rifle group gets a bunch of props to use.

There is usually lots of good stuff for free if you aren't too picky, and are creative.

My wife wanted me to gather random pallets and build stuff with the wood...I told her I didn't want to build any sort of indoor furniture with wood that could be soaked in who knows what.  Sure, if I knew the background of the pallet I'd be fine with it, but they are often used to transport chemicals, etc and end up soaking that stuff up.  I had a new bathroom vanity with granite top for my last house delivered, and I'm pretty sure the pallet it was sitting on came with it all the way from China... that was some smelly wood, and I was almost hesitant to put it in my fire pit.
