Yeah I remember that. They were bean balling each other during that time.

Buddy of mine was in that, #16 DP over at the hot corner. He said he wanted to cold cock McDowell for being the biggest prick in MLB.
Lol that was hardly an ass whooping. He only got off like three punches before everyone rushed in.

Ahh, Nolan Ryan. Back when baseball was played by Americans and a many played a long time. Now it's a bunch of meatheads and third worlders. I loved baseball, but now you can't follow a player because they're so disposable. I loved watching Jim Abbot, Nolan Ryan, Ken Griffey Jr., etc.

I went to see Nolan Ryan inducted into the Hall of Fame with my dad years ago.
Favorite player. |
Sounded like that was the second time Ryan did that to him in the same spot. I can understand him getting pissed off; I liked the hesitation... "that SOB...go time!"
Thats back when baseball was good. I quit watching mid to late 90's.. The players now cant even be mentioned in the same sentence as back then.. Ken Griffey Jr, Rickey Henderson, Wade Boggs, Don Mattingly, Mark Grace, Ryan Sandburg.. Those days are loong gone.

Why did he lower his head and charge right into Ryan's headlock? Ryan got a few blows in to the top of his head before finally connecting a couple to his face. Ventura had a lot to learn about a fight, it doesn't count when you beat his fist with your face.
Oh wow!
Truly a milestone and a turning point in human history. |
Heard a interview with Jim Rome years ago and Ryan stated exactly what a poster above said, that Ventura
charged the mound and started to beat his head into my fist. Ryan is also baseball's first million dollar contract. Not bad for a pitcher. Seemed like an astronomical sum back then. |
Ventura's nose wasn't even bleeding, hardly the greatest ass whooping of all time.
I'm far from being a huge baseball nut but the documentary Fastball on Netflix is really good is you are a Nolan Ryan fan.

View Quote In baseball brawls, that is one of the the best ass beatings ever as he got him in a headlock and made him look stupid. It wasn't about the pain or damage inflicted as much as it was about the humiliation that Ventura probably still hears about to this day. Most baseball brawls have a guy charging the pitcher. Very very rarely does the pitcher who is standing virtual still get a chance to man handle the aggressor. Add in the 46 year old vs 26 year old and that puts it over the hump in baseball lore. |

Good thing it wasn't a spider monkey. If it was a spider monkey he would've been screwed. |

most baseball fights are ballroom dancing events. Didnt someone just get popped pretty good, from Toronto maybe? |

Today's lame hockey fights are more violent than that. I miss the days of bench clearing brawls. Not shoving matches like we have now most of the time, actual flat out brawls. I was in Halifax for the golden age of minor league hockey in the early 90s. It was just like the movie Goon |

I stopped really paying attention around the same time - strike in the mid 90's |

Big Rangers fan here but putting that aside, both Bautista and Ventura are little punk bitches. |
