The new take keeps the story in a period setting and offers a fresh view on the characters. Set six years after the original Rocketeer and after Secord has vanished while fighting the Nazis, an unlikely new hero emerges: a young African–American female pilot, who takes up the mantle of Rocketeer in an attempt to stop an ambitious and corrupt rocket scientist from stealing jet-pack technology in what could prove to be a turning point in the Cold War. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/rocketeer-disney-movie-reboot-works-915037 Quoted:

Disney should just go for the lib pc trifecta, black, female, gay/t. While you've at it make the president a mongrel half black, jug eared, Muslim faggit.
I'm a fan of Joe Johnston movies, and the original is fun Buck Rogers americana that does not need a remake. |

I've always heard that Disney considered The Rocketeer to be a financial flop that under-performed expectations. I remember when it came out Disney was pushing it hard to be the next big thing with tons of marketing and merch that all kind of fell on deaf ears. They must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel if this is the best remake they can come up with, regardless of gender / race bait casting. Don't forget, this is the same company that dropped a bundle on Black Hole. made only 34M on a 25M dollar production budget, which in Hollywood means it didn't manage to break even. Funny you should mention that as Disney WAS going to remake the Black Hole a few years ago. They had the guy who did the Tron sequel on board to direct it (hence the Black Hole nod in the movie) and the last I heard they had the writer from Prometheus and a bunch of other "name" people involved with it". Perhaps it will be released as African American Hole, starring Samuel L Jackson as Hans Reinhardt. "In... through... and BEYOND, Beyotch!" |

Is it going to be as fucking stupid as the original? You shut your whore mouth. you liked the rocketeer? Aw, come on, it wasn't THAT bad... A lot of us saw it when we were kids, you know. What kid didn't want a jetpack? As a matter of fact, that movie got me started on jetpack research. At the time, the most viable one was the steam-based one - even then I knew there was no practical application for it. Later as a teen I wanted to somehow get my hands on the powerplant from a tomahawk cruise missile and use that as the basis for my build. Today, the dream has been basically realized, although it's of course not commercially available. The video below shows pretty much the capability I wanted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Czy0pXRRZcs |

Lets just do a remake of All Dogs Go To Heaven with a cat lead. Makes just as much sense. |

I liked The Rocketeer. As a matter of fact I still have it on my DVR when I recorded it the first week after I moved, last year. It's not a great movie, but it's an entertaining one and I do not think it needs a remake, especially a Social Justice Remake(tm).
There is only one explanation for the idiocy happening in Hollywood right now, that being that Cthulhu is real and he's influencing movie execs via their dreams to make mountainous, steaming piles of shit while simultaneously destroying every good and decent (or at least not patently moronic movie) of days gone by incessantly throwing churning out these moronic Social Justice Remake(tm) remakes. It's the only thing that makes any sense, because while Hollywood's liberal idiots want to push their social agenda, they also really like making money (they just don't like it when normal people make money) and shit like this does not make money. ...okay, actually I was a little harsh, so I'm going to take back part of that; if Cthulhu ran Hollywood it's still be weird as shit, but at least it'd be entertaining. My apologies to great Cthulhu. Now Nyarlathotep on the other hand, well there's nothing entertaining about that asshole at all. So yeah I blame him instead. That prick is probably why we never can get a good, major studio Cthulhu movie but we can get (without asking for it, seriously) a terrible all female Ghostbusters movie to shit all over our childhoods, and with a sequel already greenlit. Nyarlathotep is such a dick. And if they even think of remaking High Road to China, I'm on a plane the next day and I'll cut a motherfucker... |

Rocketeer isn't a bad movie... I think it is more a victim of that early 90s "neon retro" fad than anything else. It is so inoffensive and safe that it can hardly be called anything but a homage / family movie.
You want bad in the same category? Dick Tracy. That movie was fucking garbage. |
