AR and AK fans, How many drums do you have as compared to what you think you should own

I have 2 Romanian drums of the chinese design that have been running flawlessey

They're impractical in my experience - though I've not tried the newer polymer ones. I have a half dozen Yugo 75-round drums, and they're too heavy for normal use, and the jam a lot. One of them seems to seat properly put ejects itself about one round out of three.

however drum mags are silly

A couple.... I have an AK drum. It is not 100% reliable, Reliability is an issue with most of them.

If I could I would have one in a SHTF gun. More than that would simply be because I could.

I don't have any drums.

I'm seriously considering one of the new Magpul ones, though.

Heavy, expensive, bulky and unreliable... sign me up for none.

I've got one Magpul D-60 with no plans to buy any more.

I don't own any. Don't really want any, but I'm sure I'll buy a D60 one day.

I can't do the 60rd P-Drum for $125 (?) when a 30 is $15.

[#16]
They are a solution in search of a problem for any shoulder-fired, semi-auto weapon.

Why would I want to strap an ammo can onto my weapon?  Fucked up balance and ergonomics, excessive weight, and decreased mobility.  20 and 30-round mags are so much better.
Link Posted: 7/28/2016 11:27:04 AM EDT
[#17]
Exactly zero.

Because they are ridiculous expensive, heavy, and less dependable than 30 rounders.

Two 75rd Romanian AK drums. Only have one out of the package and it runs perfectly.

Do pan mags count?

I got four

Good point.

I would own several drums if I had a Thompson or a PPSh.

I have a few, but I really don't use them much.  Occasionally it is fun to flip the fun switch and do a 100rd dump.  For semi - nope.

When I had an American 180 (and 22 was cheap) I had about two dozen 275's.

I do not have any.  Someday I may pick one up for fun.

I might buy a D60 but I agree that it is impractical for a semi-auto carbine.

Should own? None. They're heavy, bulky, and not very practical.

Can own? As many as you goddamn want in whatever capacities you want.

This is the only type we are allowed to own here.

I'm with this guy...

I'd rather have 3 30-rounders than a 60, 75, or 100 round drum...

None, novilty item I cannot justify. Have almost bought one many times but ended up not.

I own zero drum mags. I'm not against them, I just can't make myself spend the extra money for one when 30 round mags are just fine for me.

All my pre-94 Chinese and Romanian drums work fine, at least in my FA RPK. I've never tried them in my semi AK's, and I haven't tried any of the newly produced AK drums. I've also got one of the old MGW 90 rounders. It's a pain to load but it works fine too. I've yet to try the new Magpul drums.

Zero - will buy a Magpul (or two) if the price ever gets reasonable.

I have one. For my 10/22.
Even that needed a little work to run reliably.

I hesitate to buy centerfire drums, don't really know of reliability track records.

I like them for my suomi and my vepr and saiga 12s. Other than that I'll pass.

For the shotguns, a fairly compact 12 round drum is way better than a giant horse weiner of a 12 round stick

Came to post this

In reality I have a bunch of C products 40rd'ers. Thats as big as I go.

ETA: I do like the idea of a Beta for an AR solely for prairie dog hunting. Bench rest with a bipod and a 100rd drum so less reloading and when you get a really heavy rifle you can see stay on target to watch your bullet strikes. If it wont feed though its worthless.

I've got both the Romanian click-to-load drums and the Chinese wind up drums for AKs.  All of mine work fine but I actually prefer the wind-up drums since I can leave them loaded forever and wind right before use.  Less effort to load also.

I have no AR drums or have plans to acquire.  I bought Surefire 60 rd mags a few years ago and they all work 100% so far.

As far as quantity, I have plenty of AK drums.  Enough for my lifetime.

I have a 50 rd for a Thompson, which I don't own. Wouldn't mind a D60 just because I'm not "allowed".

I have a Beta C, and it sits in the closet. I bought it more for the novelty than anything else. I've probably taken it to the range less than ten times.

I have owned a few drum mags and to me they are worthless.  Now, I am fine with anyone owning them, but I don't like them.  I do have one of the surefire 60 round magazines and I like it OK.  It's not a bulky as a drum magazine.

I've got one of the surefire 60's.

It was great when it worked.

Both times...

For AR, Zero or one for a range toy.

I believe AK's are more reliable with drums so IDK.
