Well, aside from an old Pietta 1860 BP replica pistol that is.

Traded from the original owner (still had a copy of the bill of sale from last year).  For $800 worth of trade consideration on a deuce and a half.

So, how'd I do for a first revolver?

Might see if Wally world has a box of .500 SW on the shelf tomorrow.   I can't imagine there's too terrible much clamor for that kind of ammo.

Elephant gun.

Honestly, when you said $800 I thought to myself: "this better be one good revolver"

Then I saw the photo.

Post 2 re-look.

Judging by the lack of cylinder wear and a little soot on the forcing cone, the previous owner got 5 shots out of it and called it quits.

Probably a good guess.   Case had a bill of sale behind the foam from the gunstore he bought it from about 10 months ago.   NIB purchase at that time.

I probably won't keep it, though I am curious to see how it shoots.   Need to do some research and see what the absolute most powder puff commercial loads are for it.

If you're happy, so am I. But I'm not huge on .44 mag in a revolver. I'm guessing I wouldn't like a .500.

Most of the commercial ammo is pretty wimpy.

700-grain loads are fun to shoot.

I have some Doubletap 350-grain loads that chrono'd over 1900 fps.  That's 3000 ft-lbs of energy.  From a handgun.

And, of course, it makes flashy-flashy, too...

Man, my first revolver was a 686.

I'll get a Ruger or S&W in .44 mag someday but that's as much as I'm willing to put up with, recoil wise.
