I’m talking about when it’s sitting in the parking lot in the hot baking sun. The reflective windshield shade really helps, throwing a white towel over the steering wheel helps from grabbing hold of a branding iron, but when you first open the door it’s still like opening the door of an oven - just set at 250 rather than 500 degrees!
Does anyone have any tips or devices? |

Park in a garage?
It's the sun bro, not much you can do but cover as many windows as possible |

I use the Vent Visors so I can leave my windows cracked.
Helps a lot. |
|
Park in the shade (or where the shade is going to be), park under cover, crack a window(s) when you park, open all the windows before you get in and let it air out a bit. If you have AC let it run for a bit before you get in. Park with the largest glass pointed away from the sun.

Leave a dog in it.
Someone will be nice enough to open your windows before you come back. |

I drive a black Camaro with leather seats and t-tops. I stand aside and let the heat out before I enter.

I took a number of the thick car reflectors, the ones that fold up, and cut out individual shapes for each window. I edged them with duct tape. I put another couple of strips of tape so that they could be caught in the window as it closes.
Worked well. |
|
I only do it when parked in the open desert while hiking (not a parking lot): Put a Mylar survival blanket over the cab. Easy to reinforce each corner with a piece of duct tape then poke a small hole for a bungee cord tie down.
You can also buy silver reflective car covers that slip over the whole car. Not really an everyday thing though. |

open door.... start car, turn on A/C, open all windows, close door and drive away. keep both back windows cracked for 5 minutes. do not turn on recirculate for at least 10 minutes.

Parking garage.
Otherwise, I was really surprised at how good window tinting can help reduce the interior temp. I have black leather interior, and it was noticeably cooler after the tinting. |
|
White vehicle.
Window tint. Vent visors. Windshield tint strip. Folding windshield shade. And then for funnzies (actually, for my stereo install) Dynamat sound deadening and insulation. |

My car turns on the fan and recirculates the interior air before I get in. It's nice.

A hot day... .
I say, a REALLY HOT day in summer here might reach 70 degrees. We just stay hydrated , and cope. |

Ceramic tint (soooo much better than regular tint) and a Heat Shield screen for the windshield
|

Pop-open window shade is a must.
Crack your windows a bit unless you are in a really shitty part of town. Leather seats or steering wheels get covered by a towel or something. Remote start helps but unless you drive a newer vehicle, it won't cool down until the vehicle starts moving or you get the RPMs up. |
|
Madico Wincos tint works for me, FULL car done, I mean EVERY window including windshield. This tint is the real deal, and Blocks IR light. Regular dark tinted windows are actually counter productive and will still make your car hot.
My car almost never gets too hot to drive off in. Also remote start helps, mine turns on the A/C and if it's hot or cold enough, it'll even turn on my heated/cooled seats. |

1.Dark window tint
2. Remote start with auto on A/C and cooled seats 3. ? 4. Profit |

I park it in a garage at home and at work...and in the shade whenever I can when I am somewhere else. I also have a remote start.
But I came across this advice one day and it seems to work fairly well to drop the temp 10-15 degrees or so right before you get in. Of course, that doesn't help with the shit that melted in the car before you do this. Quickly Expel Hot Air from Your Oven-Like Car with a Japanese Door Trick TL;DR: - Open driver's door - Roll down passenger side window - Open and close the driver's door quickly 5 times to force hot air in the car out of the smaller opening on the opposite side of the car. - If you have a partner and a 4 door car, roll down the rear passenger side window and open and close the rear driver's side door at the same time |

View Quote One neat thing about a Prius. It uses its solar panels to get the hot air outta the car. |
|
Why don't you just pull out your cell phone and start the car so the AC can blow for a few minutes, like the rest of us who drive modern vehicles?

Nope, been in Texas for over 3 decades. You do realize I was joking with a guy in Alaska who was saying when it gets really really hot, like 70 degrees in the summer there, right? |
