Here's the thing, though...
Everybody wants to punch a Redcoat in the face on Lexington Green and wave their musket at oppression, but I have news for everyone: it's a fantasy that will never happen, evar.
Here's why:
There was this thing that happened in the 1860s(civil war), and as a result of that thing(Reconstruction), the Federal Government took steps to ensure that no state, group of states, or citizens would threaten their authority again, evar. This was the actual significant outcome of the war, not freeing slaves as most are lead to believe. This is the part of the war that affects us most to this day, but most are quick to deny it as "revisionism".
I think my ancestors were absolutely right about one thing, and wrong on another. We are still facing the consequences of part or all of that today. Even the Founders didn't like the idea of a all powerful central government.
This is why politicians thumb their noses at us and do as they please: they know that we will never be able to do anything about it, and they've surrounded themselves with yes men who will order the killings of civilians if they sense an uprising, no matter how ineffective it would be.
