With singles, you don't try and control it. You let it roll up, re-cock and draw down. Many people try and fight the rolling action. Once you get beyond that, they are as nice to fire as a 1911.

That and the Bisley grip makes a big difference.

I have over 35 single action handguns. Some factory and custom  Rugers built by Bowen, Linebaugh or Stroh.

I like the 5.5 the best balance wise and looks. Most have the banded front sight. It just looks right.

I am interested in the Ruger 454 and 480. For two reasons. How they balance and look like with a hooded front sight with their longer 6 1/2 inch barrel.

The 480 if it can be made into 475.

Hurts my old hands too much. I let go my super Blackhawk.

.475 Linebaugh is a popular one as well. You can shoot .480 ruger in one as well, IIRC.

they're beautifully made and very accurate, but the Casull is a round for a narrow task.

FA makes .357, .45 Colt and .41 mag in a smaller framed gun ( model 97, maybe?). They're verrrry nice guns and superbly accurate.
pricey, though.

Much love for them and my only one is a very nice specimen indeed.

A Freedom Arms Casual model 83 that does the 454 caliber and has a matched 45 Colt cylinder for more fun.

Incredible firearm and it's without a doubt the strongest and best handling one I've ever owned. It should also be noted that's the incredible feel of the action and it's inherent accuracy are as good as you've heard in others views.

I love SA revolvers...but I hate that traditional plow handle (is that the right term?) grip.  Uncomfortable/wrong feelling.

Great thing is: Bisley grip is just fine.

Even shooting 325g 45colt loads at crazy pressures really doesn't kick that hard.  (5.5" new model bh with a reg grip) It's a solid thump and roll, but still way nicer than a 357 j frame.  Love me some H110.

I have four

1858 Remington New Army 7.5" .44 (my baby, it is my favorite
1851 Colt Navy .44 (not historically correct at all, it was a birthday present.  Brass frame is neat though)

1858 Remington New Army 5.5" .44 barrel

1860 Colt Army .44 (my second favorite)

I really need to take better pics of my two newer ones...

Colt sight picture (Navy is the same)

All of mine are Pietta reproductions. I would love to get a 1875 Remington for a smokeless powder capable pistol.

Fantastic thread!

My Dad's (now mine) Colt Frontier Scout in .22 MAG, was the gun I knew growing up.
It's big brother I purchased a couple years ago, Ruger Vaquero in .357 MAG steps it up a bit.

I would really like a .45 LC to add to the mix.

Classic Single Action in Arizona has a nice selection of wood available for grips. They're a bit pricey and you have to send the gun to them, but that's who I intend to use to replace the grips on my Cimarron Model P.

I've got a Cimarron 1860 Richards-Mason conversion in .45 Colt that I absolutely love, and my wife has an 1851 conversion in .38 spl that she would never part with. She loads most of our ammo for both. I also have an original Webley Metropolitan Police in .450 Adams from the 1870's that I load for with cut down .45 Colt cases. It has the short "Bulldog" barrel and it's more fun to shoot than you could even imagine! Haven't found a holster for it yet though.

Yes it is.
.Using my reloads(405 grain cast, starting load of IMR 4064) it's substantial but not terrible. With hotter(but still trapdoor safe) hunting loads it fucking sucks. I bought a box of Leverevolution shortly after I got the barrel. Took me 18 months to fire all 20. I did kill a deer with it two seasons ago, it does the job quite well.
Lousy pic, need to put some effort into a better one.
