Very cool. Considering they're hand fitting parts, I'm not surprised at the performance. Tighter tolerances can do interesting things.  I wonder if they stamp the parts or if they're milled.

Build a decent size trebuchet and you probably could get an AK to go 1000 yards....

He said they were getting 8 for 10 hits at 600, and "some hits" at a thousand.  What does that mean, one or two hits per mag?  So the AK is useful for harassment and area fire at long range, not so much for precision fire, that's not a huge surprise.  A "thousand yard rifle" implies something better than that.

any error in range estimation with that setup will burry the round in the dirt or fly over the targets head. When compensating for a poor cartridge such as 7.62x39 you would have to be dead nuts on range estimation with no wind at those ranges.

Lets see: 123 grain 7.62

At 1000 yards over 1000 inches of bullet drop

With 5mph wind we have 151 inches of wind drift.

Crappy old M193 drops 500 inches and with a 5mph wind we get 108 inches of wind drift.

Sexy hot mk 262 with a TMK has 409 inches of drop and 58 inches of wind drift.

The thing is, the faster your bullet is dropping towards the earth, the more precise you must be with your range estimation to correctly drop that meteor onto the cross section of a human silhouette.

I don't think that the 7.62 acog has wind calls built into the reticle and any deviation off of your range estimation will send the bullet to parts unkown.

Not made for this application and is an inferior tool to the modern AR.

7.62x39 must be falling like a brick at 1000 yards.

Funny how 5.56 is superior to 7.62x39 at just about any measure at those distances.

1000 yards is area suppression fire for the AK, but in Häyhä matches and other sniper events there are spotters who use Rk92S and Rk62S rifles for some of the stages. I hear in calm weather 500 meter torso first round hits are very doable and head shots can be done with a couple walking in shots. The problem is mostly target area winds because the rounds have slowed a whole lot by that far (and depending on bullet tends to drop subsonic at about 550-650 meters, which cuts accuracy a lot at that point). Even at 300 m the “problem of two groups” (depending on which side of the magazine the round is fed from) is a serious issue with cheap AKs and their simplified bolt carrier lower cuts.

700 meters and man sized target needs pretty solid ammo as well.

With enough of an angle, elevation, and ammo - any gun can become a 1000 yard gun.

Hay guise, my precision 10/22 is capable of suppressive fire from 1k.
