I finally got around to finishing my M-16A2 style rifle. It is the same type of rifle I carried as a young Private in the 82nd before the days of the M-4 coolness. This is just old school sweetness right here.

This is the 20" rifle kit from Del-Ton and the lower receiver is a 504th Blue Devils commemorative80% lower from Sherwood Armory LLC.

Now with dinner pic!

I've got an ARFCOM lower waiting for me to get the cash to build an A2.

Such a classic (and I love the KISS factor the old A2s have).

It has the original front sight base, not "F" marked, the rear sight ranges out to 800m just like an old school M-16A2. SO if I zero it at 25M one click back from 800/300 it should be dead on when using the range on the rear sight.

That's a real AR

The A2 is the most neglected and underappreciated, but perfect form of the system.

Snap-shots @ 75m, perfect balance, nothing to break, smash skulls with the butt & gore with an M9, then go shoot a match and have a whiskey

This is freakin cool. I've always though it would be cool to do an m16A2 build. Something about a basic 20" rifle that just says "I'm here to fuck shit up."

Love it. I think I'll have to pick one of those kits up to go with my m16a4 clone. Did the upper come completely assembled?

Follow on question as there are poetically others looking to pick up this kit in the future-
When you selected the 20" kit did you choose the government profile? Also, under upper you swap that to an a2 then for the gas block you selected non F marked correct?

Shit, I even have a few cases of those and a bayonet. I will have to do a dinner pic tonight! Love the idea.

Did ever pay compliment to anyone? 1SG Boone never did. I was always on his shit list. Being a hard headed asshole didn't help though.

I am going old school. Two-point sling with the metal buckles.

I have a big roll of the nylon webbing material and a bag of the metal buckles.

It is an 80% lower. I put those on all of my 80% builds since drilling the hammer and trigger holes exposed the soft aluminum under the anodizing. I do this just as a precaution to keep the holes from "egging" out.

Nice. KNS pins look strange on an A2 though.

Ahh the memories. Plastic handguards make a shit load of noise when dropped on concrete. I was tired that day in Georgia....real tired. Lol

I got the kit from Del-Ton. It is a chrome lined government profile 1/9 twist barrel. The front sight base is for the A2, and is not "F" marked. The upper came assembled with a flat top receiver. I had an old A2 upper laying around so I disassembled the upper and put it on. When I customized my kit, I could have let them do the A2 upper but that was an additional $10. I did specify to them that I did want the A2 front site base.

A rep from Del-Ton contacted me to verify I did not make a mistake. Good service I think.

The hand guards and butt stock are commercial copies and do not feel right. I have an old Army surplus M16A2 furniture kit on the way from Sarco Arms, so other than the KNS Pins, it will be correct.

I put KNS Pins on all of my 80% lowers as a precaution since the hammer and trigger pin holes are not anodized and could "egg" out with heavy use and I do plan on using this one alot.

I have a 20" Target Model Colt blue label.  It is a great shooter, as in .5 MOA.  I wish that it had a bayo lug but I will never sell it.  Congrats on your A2.  Shoot the hell out of it, they are a blast!

Awesome! I just finished an A2 build this week. Can't wait to get out and zero it up.

Never used a carry handle sight before so I'm excited to finally mess with one.

Has that lower been used before this build?
There looks like some wear on the mag release button.

Yes it is has been used on another build. I am going to use the lower parts kit from Del-Ton on a spare 80% lower I have and put that rifle back in service.

A little off topic but would the ALG single chamber brake be a decent alternative to the flash hider for those of us stuck in a ban state? I was thinking of one for my A4 build.
