Stupid thread is stupid. Proximity of bystanders? Types of walls? Ammo type? Bullpup what? Shotgun? Rifle? View Quote Details are missing. My house has 4 split levels, the angles work out in such a way that I do not have to worry about over penetration hitting a loved one and my longest shot about 30 feet. Since my longest shot is about 30 feet, since I have been point shooting a 590 for over 20 years, and I don't have to worry about over penetration, I'll take a shotgun. But there is another factor. Teenagers. Got four of them and between them and their friends I can't answer the door with a shotgun. I usually grab my G35 w/TLR-1 after bed and before bed time I have a 19 on me. Everybody's situation is different, from the layout and construction of their home, number of occupants, age of occupants, city, burbs, country, level of experience with one weapon over another, it all adds up to no one weapon is perfect for every situation and every home. Go over the different factors and figure out what will work best for you with all things considered. Rifle, shotgun, or pistol doesn't matter to me as long as it's practical and can be used proficiently. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I've owned all three and the bullpup is definitely the most house-clearing friendly. The barrel doesn't announce your presence as you enter a room/hallway, is easier to retain and the balance allows you to manipulate doors while still carrying the rifle at high-ready.

Shotgun. At such a close range the 556/223 won't have a chance to tumble and therefore would be less effective. View Quote Tumble? You mean you're using ball ammo? Why would you even...? I've got a decent supply of 64 grain Gold Dot 5.56. I'm not worried about the round tumbling to be effective. |

Some of you are going to choose a bullpup type, and wake up one day to realize your mistake, and you'll cry for days.
Some of you are going to hold a dick in your mouth until the swelling goes down. You may wake up and regret it, but thank God you aren't as gay as the bull pup crowd. |

I have owned all three and I would use the AR for the following reasons.
It kills better than the shotgun And it is cheaper to replace while it sits in an evidence room for years. |
|
My reasons for taking the AR:
1. Low recoil 2. Superior ability to turn cover into concealment 3. Better able to penetrate more types of body armor. 4. More training time with it? 5. the 30 round mag in the mag well, plus the extra one in the redi-mag gives me more shots. 6. Much higher rate of fire with the AR many people put forward the number of projectiles fired by a shotgun per trigger pull, but at common "house fighting" distances, the shot has not had much chance to spread, negating that idea. In a perfect world, I would find a reasonably priced select fire Stryr Aug with a 16" barrel and a 42 round mag for the job the OP described. |
