Blow some compressed air in there. Take a coat hanger and break up the gunk in the hole around the plug and blow it out.
Might take some work to get the socket over the plug flats, but if you work at it , you can get it out.

Replace the coil and boot or complete coil that goes in the hole too.

Fill that with  an inch or 2 of PB Blaster,  wait at least 5 hours,  blow it out with compressed air,  then have a go at it.

Water has been getting into the hole for a long time, what does the coil seal look like? What is above the plug, the edge of the hood perchance?

It's the back cylinder near the hood but the hood seal is in great shape.
Here is the coil. It was rusty before I put it in the car

Check windshield washer hoses, coolant lines.
Hood to body seals.
Water only gets in there so many different ways, process of elimination it's not magic fixing a car.

Good luck

Drive it underwater  and make sure it ends upside down...   big breath of air  and get under there with a good light and strong wire   and pic around in there,,  spraying  some brake clear    would help

I agree, but the coil boot should be sealing better as well.

Yep. At least he didn't have to get new heads for a simple plug change.

None. It wasn't even hand tight. I think the crud was exhaust leaking out. Could the piston have hit it?

Disconnected the battery and the check engine light came back on. It's running better though. Going to pull that plug tomorrow and see what's up.

Did you actuall clear the codes? If not, it may take a few cycles to clear it or it may have to be cleared manually. [code reader]

I will have auto zone manually clear out tomorrow. When I walk in the door they usually grab the code reader out of repetition

I replaced 5 of them so I'm assuming it would be all or nothing if they were the wrong size.

What does the ceramic part of the plug look like?  Does it wobble or have anything that looks like a crack?

Nevermind, just read it was not tight.  I have had that happen and now use a torque wrench for spark plugs.

Could there have been enough carbon built up on the piston from misfiring to smack the plug and close the gap and also loosen it ?

Fucked up plug looks fine once I cleaned it off. I didn't put a new coil on it since I replaced it a few months ago. I bought 6 from ebay that came off of another car. Will change it out tomorrow.

This is a 99 dodge intrepid with 80 k miles that was my grandmother's and I was gifted it when she died. It's always been a boat and it's turning into that in the money pit category. I am getting to the point of diminishing returns since its value is basically $1000

Don't discount the wrong size plug getting put in the wrong box.  Crap like that can happen.  Have you checked the number on the plug?

There was carbon build up on the plug. I cleaned it up and there is gap.
