I worked with a Chinese programmer in the US, we were talking one day and he said he was a doctor in China but came to the US. I asked why, he said I probably hadn't heard of the protests in Tiananmen Square, but that he was a medical student then and was forced to tend to injured soldiers while walking past wounded students - people he went to school with, he was forbidden to help. So he finished his degree, came to the US, and was never going to leave. I told him that was all we talked about all day in high school when it was going on. It was a rough day - he couldn't believe we'd heard of it all the way over here. |
