I looked quick when I first saw this thread-is this movie not available for streaming? Amazon doesn't have it for sale or rent other than on dvd/blue ray

Seems like I have seen it as a rental though I thought I watched it a year or two ago

It's on youtube in high def but you need to you a proxy outside the US due to licensing issues.

I wholeheartedly agree. It's one of my favorite flics. I even think I've got it on DVD somewhere. I may have lent it out as it isn't in my 80's flic rotation anymore.

Awesome movie. Had great style to it.

Kind of related, Petersen's first role was a minor one in Thief. Another awesome flick.

Here's a great story about a genius counterfeiter.

http://www.details.com/story/the-most-notorious-counterfeiter-albert-talton

They did this on the American Greed Show, an hour long show I listened to on XM radio.  Ink jet printer...hi-quality fakes.  Genius adaptions of magnetic strip and other security features.

Very accurate methods.

With the exception of digital workflow, that's how the pros do it today.

Using printing machines bought at government auction.

Counterfeits don't have to be accurate though. You just have to get one person to accept them as legit. It's a great deal like musical chairs but with one note... Lol

They were so good the director himself passed a few off.

"William Friedkin, in his memoir "The Friedkin Connection," says that the fake money they made was so good that, after some of it left the set, he eventually heard from the Secret Service and a US Attorney. After he avoided a confrontation with them, Friedkin states, "When the film came out, there were news stories about people trying to make counterfeit money after seeing the step-by-step process in our film. I took some of the twenties, those printed on both sides of course, put them in my wallet, and spent them, in restaurants, shoe-shine parlors, and elsewhere. The money was that good."

Right down to the orange plastic mask and the photo engraver.
You needed three plates for the old bills.
Two for the fronts and one for the backs.

Don't forget to stock up on poker chips...

Question is, since the old bills are still legal tender, why don't they still counterfeit them.

Too hard to pass.  I had a girl at a Taco Bell freak out because she took a 1979 $20 and thought she would get fired for taking counterfeit money.  I bought it off of her to calm her down.

Kids these days apparently don't know what old money looks like.

Hehe, me too. I was 12-13 when it came out. I started reading all I could about the gun and I convinced my parents (mainly my dad) to get me a Combat Commander for my 15th birthday. I remember drooling over the pics of them in the Shooters Bible for years before I was gifted it.

Actually it was. Jeff Cooper taught it and called it a press check.

Michael Mann was a Cooper fan and tried to get him to train James Caan at Gunsite for the role. Cooper refused because he said an ex-con wouldn't know how to handle a pistol like that. Mann got Chuck Taylor, who was an instructor at Gunsite at the time, to give Caan private lessons.
