Southbound I-17 just south of Flagstaff. Snapped his neck on impact. Couple of dudes in pickups got a tag from the responding officer and took him home. My car got fucked.

Braked a split second before impact, you can see the nose of my car dive. No time to react . Didn't even notice him until he was in the left lane. Fucker's camouflaged with the terrain.

Me, too!  I hit one on my bike about 10 years ago on SR-83 going to Sonoita. $2700 damage, but I kept it up and walked away.  ( I actually rode to work, then home, then to the bike shop).  The front subframe was bent, the fairing cracked in a few places and the headlight assembly was destroyed.  I had a deer fur impregnated riding suit for a while.

Sorry to hear about your Lexus, OP.

Glad you are in one piece.

Up here in NW Montana, body shops thrive because of deer damage to vehicles.
MANY trucks/SUVs here wear bumper guards specifically made for hitting wildlife.

Pro Tip: don't bother braking...hit them and hope they flip out of the way.

Try to have a Merry Christmas...you did OK.

And That, folks, is why a car is safer than a bike.

I like how he waited till you were on an overpass.       Good job driving right through him.      Some twitchy hippy fucks would have swerved their car right into that ravine.

Btdt, got the settlement.

yeah, that area is a downhill speed zone....  do you recall how fast you were going?  I'm doing 80 in that area and will reconsider

I'm having the car towed down to Phoenix tomorrow. I want to try to repair it if possible. I love the car. 252,000 miles and still drives beautifully.

Hit him at mile marker 300. Guy at the tow yard asked me if it happened around mile marker 300.......I guess that's the hot spot for crossings for some reason.

Glad you are ok. Scares the crap out of you. I was watching for it and couldn't see it until too late.

I have gotten 2 in pick up trucks- both of them bucks. smaller than that, and at a lower speed. They came tearing out of the woods at night, not jumping, but running like a dog.
Almost nailed one in Colorado a few years ago. Two does went first the the buck peeks out and sees me stopped, turned and run back down the gully.

I was probably easily doing that. If I was going under the speed limit at around 60-65 it might have been avoidable.

The deer in my hood have learned to look both ways before crossing the road. Natural selection really does work.

After reviewing the video, I can definitely see where you hit the brakes. You tried, bro. You really did. Too bad about your, too. Sounds like it was still a very nice car.
