eta- minor format change in table The FBI page doesn't have Florida listed, and several states reported incomplete totals, so I used figures from http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/ for Florida, Alabama, Illinois, and Hawaii. Illinois' fireams murders total is incomplete so that's why their firearm rate is lower then it should be. FBI table 20, original figures 2013, for comparison |

California stats are impressive. Obviously gun control is really working for them.

Baltimore alone has had more murders YTD then the entire state of Maryland did last year. That drop to 15th won't last long.

We are in the lead with death by " hands, fist, feet and other".

I wonder what that lone rifle murder was in NY... One....
The whole fucking unsafe act for one fucking murder. More people have died in state parks. |

St. Louis keeps us in the top. View Quote The mayors and city councils in St. Louis and Kansas City deny the rate is high in the cities, yet the total shown belongs mostly to those two. It's a good thing they don't report all of the killings, Missouri would probably take top banana. Homicides in St. Louis for the first 10 months of 2015: 168, up 47 from 2014's first 10. St. Louis City: 159 in 2014 Kansas City: 77 in 2014 236 total. The regional counts will be needed to get anywhere close to 402. I'm skeptical about all of these numbers without more information. |

New Hampshire needs more black ghettos and poor, Third World immigrants. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

What's with the virgin islands?
ETA: Now I'm seeing the low total number of murders, probably just an anomaly due to drug smuggling or some such shit. |
|
So wait a sec.... You're telling me that Texas, one of the most gun friendly states, has a lower rate of murders by firearms than California?
Cali, I am disappoint. Maybe they should pass more laws. Surely, the criminals will think they're serious when the next law passes. |

Baltimore routinely has half the total murders in MD, with only 10% of the population of the state.

Woooo hoooooo yeah Delaware's 6th and with a population of only 935,000....we killed it literally!

Is Puerto Rico one of those places where you are OK if you are at a resort or the like?
Otherwise it seems like a place to avoid for a getaway. |

Did you see the numbers for PR, USVI, and DC? View Quote I've lived on all 3 USVI and spent considerable time in PR. I felt safer in PR but the VI has some bad spots after dark. During the day most places are safe except the government housing areas, but tourists are definitely not going there. Downtown at night you need to stay in well lit areas and preferably at your hotel grounds but it's no where near as dangerous as Jamaica. I only felt threatened a few times and I was alone or in bad areas. It's hard not to laugh when people of the opposite skin color ask me if I can relate to racism. St. John is the safest and most laid back, I've rarely heard of any real crimes there but I am sure data can be found. I'd sleep on a park bench there, err pass out. |

Louisiana still #1 but down over 1 murder per 100K since 2013. New Orleans must be slipping some.

The group? You guessed it: Lesbians. Kidding! LOL! It's not Lesbians. I'll let Carnac clue you in... |

Hell with the number of murders just in Goldsboro about 20 minutes North of me NC is going to rise even further in the rankings for the 2015 totals.
|
|
In gross terms, sure. However............. But, according to an AL.com analysis of the numbers, it's not the state's most crime-infested. Statewide, Anniston had the highest homicide and violent crime rate per capita, while Selma had the highest property crime and total rate. |

Holy shit, NH has fewer murders per 100k than Iceland. 12 in the whole state.

I clicked this thread expecting Ohio to sit squarely in the middle, simply because it was a ranking of 50 states. And I wasn't dissappointed.
It could be a thread on "couches per capita" and we'd still hover around #25. It's the damnedest thing. |

Socioeconomics matter more than geography, the two just happen to correlate fairly well. The top 10 worst are primarily poorer states with relatively large populations of poor and uneducated. |

If overdoses and suicides were added separately to the list. Murder would take a back seat to both of those.

PR and DC have positively Draconian gun laws.
But liberals remain ZFG. |
