"Florida, literally, abounding in flowers, named by Ponce de Leon. Statehood granted in 1845, first governor William D Moseley. Flowing from the waters of the Kissimmee River to Lake Okeechobee and through the Everglades into Florida Bay. Along the way, nurturing a low, flat petri dish of extreme people. The rugged, the hopeful and the dammed. Ridiculed as the place with no roots, no native residents and no culture, the land of shuffleboard and the nonregional, TV weatherman accent. But they are not laughing anymore. Cocaine, Castro and the carpertbaggers castrated with grooved grapefruit spoons that say "life's a Beach" on the handle. New reisdents are interned in hot, dusty trailer parks populated entirely by assholes from Illinois. We get hit with storm after storm and walk through the rubble whistling Dixie and applying sunscreen. How does that stack up aganist your commonwealth ? We don't have great potatoes, we're not the garden state, we aren't proud to wear furry hats with earflaps and "Live free or die!" We're a twenty-four-hour, dead bolted, hair-on-the back-of-your-neck, free continental breakfest, death-wish vacation of a lifetime, not from concentrate. State motto ? "Behind you". " --- Tim Dorsey

I heard that there is a great burger joint ,without AC, in the north end? My sister and her husband found it years ago. We all piled in at a big condo where the S-curve is for my in laws 50th anniversary. ( same week OKC was bombed, McVeigh was in my Guard unit outside Buffalo ). Yeah, AM I is a little slice of heaven.

Absolutely loved my time in Tampa. My wife and I moved down there for 3 months on business this last summer, and rented a house on a lake in Brandon. The people, the nightlife, the bar scene, everything was awesome. Totally different culture than Utah, very friendly people instead of the frigidity that is prevalent in Utah.
Now I really want to go back. Thanks |

It ain't Miami, but has a nice Cuban influence, and fairly young demographic. Plenty to do, without the tourist mentality. Downtown still needs work, but Jeff Vinik has a vision, and is spending a bunch of money doing some really good things. The best weather in the country 7 months a year. Proximity to beautiful beaches, rivers, springs. Yeah, it's hot for 5 months, but there's this thing called air conditioning, and frankly places like Atlanta are worse during the summer. At least we have sea breezes. |

You can say Jacksonville isn't Florida....but it isn't south Georgia either. The panhandle might be considered south Georgia or south Alabama, but Jacksonville is its own thing. Personally, I like Florida. It's a weird mix of a lot of different cultures, and textures. You have southern, and yankee transplants, mixed with Cubans. It's pretty cool. South Florida is much different then north Florida, and central Florida is a mix of the two worlds. Going to the Florida keys let's you drive to tropical Caribbean islands, the panhandle is the emerald coast, central Florida is an amusement park, and parts of Miami have a third world feel. It's wacky and crazy, but really kinda cool. |
