If certain words are banned, when used to describe Black crimes, due to implied racism, then why isn't calling someone a racist or bigot a conduct code violation?

I suppose that it depends on what a reasonable person would think. Some racists and bigots post here, for a while, and when they post blatant racist or bigoted remarks, are sanctioned appropriately. Having a difference of opinion about some remarks has to be taken in context in order to be fair and reasonable. We (Staff) have come to a point where BANS are put up for peer review before they become permanent. Lesser sanctions are still subject to peer review, and occasionally are modified. Very few people are sanctioned without other Staff knowing about it, and such Staff can easily review the sanctioned person's record, and the threads in which they were sanctioned. The point is that there is no single Staff member that can run amok nowadays without the rest of us knowing about it pretty quickly, and reviewing their actions. Same thing goes for Mods This is in direct contrast to the old days, where Staff members could ban at will, with zero review of their actions. FWIW, the old Staff has been gone year ago, because their autocratic style was deemed inherently unfair by Site Admin. What has happened is that Staff discretion has been reduced, and Members are now being sanctioned, and especially banned much more uniformly. This has resulted in some members being sanctioned nowadays whereas previously they might simply have been warned, or contacted via IM. Many Members cried out in the past for more uniform application of sanctions. Well, now you have it. |
