Miami-Dade police are on the lookout for two semi-truck trailers filled with Christmas trees that were stolen from a Kendall Costco on Tuesday night.

Someone made off with the two 53-foot semi-truck trailers parked outside the mega-store at 13450 SW 120th St., across the street from the Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport. Inside: $18,000 in Christmas trees.

Florida Beauty, a large refrigerated floral truck delivery service in South Florida, dropped off the two trailers, valued together at $78,000, on Tuesday afternoon. The trailers, each holding 500 trees, were stolen sometime between 8 p.m. and midnight.

“They were brand new — 2015,” said Frank Ducassi, vice president of sales for Florida Beauty.

That must be a neat sight.  Hook up a large trailer to your 2 inch ball F150 truck.

Then trying to sell all those trees would have you caught at some point.

They stole the trailers, not the trees.

Whoever stole them probably thought they were snagging the black friday supply of TV's.

Its also possible someone is trying to tree the market on Christmas trees in the area.

They probably stole the trees so they could spruce up the ghetto for the holidays.

$18,000 in trees, but I'm curious what the value on those trailers is

Ducassi said he thinks the use of a pin lock was mandated by the contract, but the Costco general manager said he was only instructed to lock the trailer doors.

“It’s going to be a black eye for Costco if they were supposed to secure the trailers and didn’t,” Ducassi said.

IMO it's an even bigger black eye for the truck company if they didn't bother to secure their own rigs.

The point he was making is the thieves did not steal the trailers to get the trees.  They stole the trailers to get the trailers.  They would probably have preferred if the trailers were empty, now the have to deal with the trees inside.

So the wholesale value of the trees was about $17? Wow. The price they're charging here isn't even close to that. There's a profit in Xmas trees, even at Costco! (Well, not this Costco)

They weren't "rigs", they were trailers. When refer trailers are left with a customer, the customer is usually responsible for their security.  I'm thinking that a Costco associate was supposed to retrieve pin locks from the loading dock and install them on those trailers. Semi trailer theft is racket, and not uncommon.

Trailer theft is so rampant all around here.  I read the cargonet theft bullitins and they are always interesting reading what was taken.  It's like playing roullette when they steal them.  Sometimes it's christmas trees, sometimes it's Appe Iphones!

Most likely. A while back a crew of teenagers stole a bunch of mops from a warehouse.

Mops.

I'm sure that made a good story sitting around at the state prison

Hopefully when they catch the thieves they pile up all the trees, place said criminals on top of the pile and light a match.

I'm tired of the limpwristed approach to punishing criminals.
