Help me out here guys. This person is generally a raging liberal and I'm at a loss. I had a couple responses in until she started to become triggered so I backed out. Mostly because I don't feel like starting shit with a 20 y/o libtard.

She think that companies should be paying $15 minimum to their employees, essentially she wants minimum wage to be increased to $15/hr.

I'd love to really get a good response in. I'm counting on you guys.

This was something else she posted as support for her argument.

why stop at $15, make it $100, or even $1,000

minimum wage will always be minimum wage, regardless of what arbitrary number liberals want to set it at

the something that needs to change is they should get a different job.

entry level jobs are not meant to provide a level of income to live off of.

why $15? hell, make it $50 and be done with it. Or maybe even $100

just reinforcing the post above me...

Meh.

If 40 hours a week of your labor doesn't bring enough value to an employer to make a profit while paying you enough to live on, it's not my fucking problem.  You should work harder.  Or study harder.  Or adopt a cheaper way of living.

As for FDR's bullshit Marxist drivel... The government deciding which businesses have "the right to exist"?  How is that not textbook totalitarian fascism?

You can't debate economics with someone that doesn't know anything about economics.

Oh, and the fact that the person uses the word "deserve" is a major red flag.

Much like "fair," these days it's a word that serves to warn you that you're dealing with an immature simpleton who believes that life is a children's playground.

Beat them over the head with minimum wage is not a living wage. The fucking end. Its is the legal minimum you can pay someone. It is for people that can barely make it to work on time and do the bare minimum to not get fired. It is not a living wage.

Tell her she is a moron, and that HER view is flat out wrong.

No rational person should work for a wage that they cannot survive on. It is absolutely illogical. There are ways to survive on minimum wage. It isn't everyone's right to be able to afford a home and a car and everything else modern in our world. Regardless, there are plenty of places in the country to live where you can afford a home and a car on minimum wage.

What did people do before the FLSA? The money is the problem.

The answer is always more government. How people survived before a government program is beyond me.

Ask them to explain WHY they deserve the $15/hr.  Tell them that the cost of goods and services is a function of materials cost, labor, and profit.  Arbitrarily raising the wage will raise the price of the good or service; it's not like CorpCo is going to absorb it.

Raising the wage dilutes the money supply and increases inflation.

Ask her what she thinks the cheeseburgers the minimum wage morons are going to sell for after the wage is hiked to $15 an hour.

If she responds with it will cost more: tell her than that $15 an hour is now worth less because it will buy less and the minimum wage morons are stuck in the same loop.

If she responds with the same: ask her why if costs go up prices wouldn't go up.

If she responds with socialist platitude: call her a fucking vapid cunt and block her from your friend list, shut down facebook, burn your computer, and go shooting for fun.

Economic 101

If everyone made $15/hr at a minimum, the price of EVERYTHING will go up. From the price of milk, break, gas, housing, etc. The poverty line will simply be raised. In a free market society there will always be a bottom few % of people that are "poor".

What does poor mean in the US?  It means you don't have a roof over your head, running water, sewer, clothing, or heat in the winter. THAT is poor. Stop and think just how cheap most things are in the US: TV's, food, water, rent, clothing, etc, etc. What is expensive? Health insurance, new cars, etc. Now compare that to 30-50 years ago.

What is poor?

$15/hr would only move the poverty bar, not eliminate it.

It will cost you one dollar but its a great visual.  Calculate the percentage increase and measure the dollar and calculate the percentage of the length and draw a line across it.  Take a pair of scissors and cut off that part, show them what's left and say, "That's how much your dollar is now worth."

Only if you have a badass employer. Most will probably do some bullshit like 3% for employees making over $15.

What you will see, is a dramatic increase in rent and housing first, followed by a slower rise in utilities, food, energy, property tax (in the SE anyway a great number of municipal jobs pay under $15), and then everything else within 24 months, so in the end virtually everyone making over $15 will after a very short adjustment have less spending power for years before the market adjusts, if it doesn't fail, and everyone gets back to where they were at which point the minimum wagers are screaming about needing to make $25 an hour to live. I believe it's called inflation.

I said years ago raising it to $5 an hour was a mistake.  Ass clowns always think mandating a wage makes things better. There should be NO minimum wage what so ever, let an employee negotiate for their pay .

Sadly $15 an hour is coming along with $5 a dozen eggs and $8 a loaf bread. Stupid bastards just do not understand economics. Oh wait someone can mandate price controls to stop stores and manufactures from raising prices.

Some people just don't get the "Entry level job" thing.
I need to have a license and a clean record for my job.
So that means I should make more than some nit wit fresh out of school (assuming they even graduated)
Those jobs were/are for people who need to make a second income (pay a couple bills, etc),
Retirement supplement, and for stay at home parents that can work a couple hours a day while jr is in school.
WTF part of entry level do you not get?
Maybe now I should get a $7- 10 hour raise. (A truck driver that delivers groceries to stores)
How much do you think your groceries are going to cost you then?
Some people just can't see past the end of their noses.

This is it right here.

It will just trigger inflation so that $15 is now what 7.25(federal minimum wage) is worth. Then wage inflation will follow.. Ex. I am chef of 20 years that can run a kitchen(labor, food costs, menu development, etc) and if the entry level guy is getting $15/hr, I want more than that to pay for my skills.

The national average right now for a executive chef is $55-70k. If that raise go through, sorry, I want 90k+ for my skills, so what does a business owner do?

Raise prices.

Say hello to $15 combo meals and $18 burgers at Applebee's.

ummm that's not how capitalism works.

You have no "right" to make a "living wage".

You have no "right" for that wage to afford a home.

Wage is all determined by market conditions.  Whenever govt. gets involved it screws things up.  Once wages go up, prices go up on goods as well thus effectively rendering that wage increase useless.

Her argument is non-sense.  In her logic all the ski bums and service industry workers should be making $100/hr to afford a home and a "living wage" in Aspen.
Link Posted: 11/25/2015 12:09:43 PM EDT

I'd reply that we should pay people what they are worth... and some people aren't worth even $3 an hour. I'd also add that there should not be a federally mandated minimum wage and that would stop suppressing the wages of the people that are worth $15 per hour.

She will probably reply with foaming at the mouth gibberish...

I just started my own business.  I employ so far 3 people, 2 full time and one part time.  If min wage was $15/hr I could only afford to hire 1 FT & 1 PT.  What she doesn't realize is where are these companies going to get the extra revenue for the payroll?  Does she think raising the MW magically make a company's revenue increase??!!  The majority of businesses work on a slim margin of profit.  Not all are the large corporations who have larger profit margins like she probably thinks all businesses are.  AND I'm sure she thinks all owners of businesses are raking in $$$ while their employees struggle to put food on the table right???!!!

Right now I'm making just enough to keep doors open and pay my bills.  I'm just starting but that will change hopefully soon.  Raising minimum wage does not equate to better employees!  She and others like her have absolutely no concept of how a business is run or operated.

Changing the minimum wage doesn't change the value of the work.

On the other hand, telling people they're just going to have to suck it up and starve isn't realistic.  They'll just vote for Democrats.
