Maxim's circulation has been more than Playboy's for some time. Naked chicks just don't have the same cachet that the used to. What happened with Maxim? I had subscribed for a number of years when I got it for like 5 bucks a year. They completely lost all credibility when they named Moochelle one of the 100 hottest women. So pathetically beta wrong I never looked at them since. Internet has killed printed smut. Who leaves Playboys out on their bookshelf? Everyone tucks them away somewhere, and that's the thing, they're heavy and take up space. Sounds like a stupid gamble to me - the article says the brand makes a lot of money world wide, so they write off the loss with the print as their "Fifth Avenue storefront." Now they are fucking with the storefront, so what will it do to the brand's image? Probably sink it. The day Playboy is no longer Playboy. |

They have to do something - internet has made their porn obsolete, but they see magazines like Men's Health and GQ doing well. Funny part - they fought to change society, and they won. Marriage has all but been destroyed. Random sex has never been more common. Men today want to be "playboys" more than ever.

All of about six pages of naked women somewhere throughout all those ads for mens underwear, shoes, cologne, watches / jewelry and product reviews ( which are just lengthy ads ) for things most people can't afford and likely wouldn't buy if they could. Such as five thousand dollar wine racks and stupid trinkets like that. Then the interviews with people I barely ever heard of plus slanted news. What are they up to a hundred or so pages of that crap? Probably more pics of men in that thing in all those ads. Is what killed Playboy.

I think it is a bold move. Is anyone who is looking for porn still buying playboy? That seems like a very small market. If playboy is going to survive, it has to become something else. I am doubtful they will succeed, because I think all print magazines, like newspapers, are in a death spiral anyways.
