This thread is gay.
Did you choose it to be so or was it gay from the time you made it? |
|
The way I see it, you didn't choose to like women, you just did
I figure the guys who like guys didn't choose to like guys, they just do |

I don't care. Just don't ask for special treatment or try to push your agenda on me.

If it was a choice, why would someone choose a sexual orientation that has been outlawed, ostricized and mocked, and until only the past few decades, forced them to live in secret?

The answer to your question
Male sexual orientation has been linked to several genomic loci, with Xq28 and 8p12 being the most replicated. View Quote |

Do you like women? Why do you like women?
Same reason some people like dudes. |

My roommate is gay. I told him about this thread and asked for his opinion. He said he chose to be gay 3 years ago, because he wanted to know what it felt like to be a minority, and trans-racial surgery was too expensive.

You are not born that way.
Environment appears to be the primary contributing factor, but the issue of homosexuality is usually so deeply rooted in the person's personality that it takes years of therapy to untangle. |

Most likely both.
Alcoholism is a choice, but ~10% of the population is pre-disposed to it. |

I'm pretty sure they were born gay.
I have few life long friends and few family members who are gay and with every one of them I knew they were (strange/weird/different) even back when they were prepubescent kids. Now with my kid's 8-9 y/o friends I can already see ones that are "different". |
|
A little from column "A" a little from column "B" I'd reckon.

I was just reading about the recent genetic basis for homosexuality, from studying twins. Seems there is a built-in very mild predisposition towards it, like a 1 in 5 chance that it would develop even if the genes were there. Some environmental effects seem to express the gene, too.
So I'm going with a partial innate preference, but the manifestation is probably due to some environmental factors, too.

I don't think being gay is genetic. I think it's the result of psychological conditioning, because of a dysfunctional family or other influences. The person has no control over the family in which he is raised. So in that sense it's not really a choice.

It doesn't matter anymore. The "it's a choice" thing is an argument for discrimination against them, and that ship has sailed. Someone can be born gay or choose to be gay and either way you're still not going to be able to discriminate against them so what does it matter anyway.

Ive seen too many drunk chicks make out with each other to believe its inborn.

Your gut desires....they're there.
Acting on them---that's a choice. Ever wanted to slap somebody and didn't? Congrats you controlled your desires Ever had the opportunity to cheat and didn't, congrats you made a choice for the greater good, despite being a consenting adult |

re you aware that there are people in this world that have a severe medical condition which causes them to be that way? My mother for instance is one of those people. She is a truck driver that has bad knees and a bad back from driving the truck but you probably do not care about that case either. Oh well I am not one of those people I am 6'4" 245lbs and I exercise every day. I would love to see you say something like to my mother in front of me. Probably never happen though you are probably just an internet tough guy. I doubt very seriously you would say that to someones face. Just my thought. What do you think. Oh I am sorry you probably do not have a brain. I on the other hand will be happy to buy you a plane ticket to come here and see if you have the nerve to say that to someone I know.
