Sacramento Police: Man Lured Officer From Car, Beat Him Because He Was A Cop
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Sacramento Police officer is recovering after investigators say he was ambushed outside a hospital.
Police have arrested two men in the case. Juan Gomez, 21, is accused of ambushing the officer and brutally beating him for no other reason than the officer’s profession. Sacramento police say it happened early Monday morning in a parking lot at Kaiser South medical center. They say Gomez knocked on the officer’s patrol car window and lured the officer out. “The man had told the officer that there was someone in the area with a gun. He immediately and violently attacked the officer,” said Sacramento Police spokesman Doug Morse. The officer, taken by surprise, was knocked to the ground. “The attack continued when that individual actually jumped on that officer and continued to strike him in the face,” Morse said. While the attack was happening, police say Jamaral Lee, 35, recorded the attack and encouraged Gomez. Eventually security guards and bystanders noticed what was happening, and helped stop the attack. Both Gomez and Lee were placed under arrest while the officer rushed into the hospital. View Quote Police investigators say Gomez lured a white, male officer out of his vehicle by falsely reporting that there was a man with a gun nearby the 6600 block of Bruceville Road. When the officer got out, police say Gomez struck him multiple times in the face and tried to take his gun. While this is disgusting and the perp should go to jail for a LONG time, in other news….. this happens all the time to innocent people across this country for no reason whatsoever in some cases.

View Quote The perp trying to take his gun is also why I scoff at the arguments of police against constitutional carry because they wont know if someone has a gun when stopped. If a cop is there, there is always a gun, and cops always need to be on guard. Too many are killed by their own gun (no I'm not saying being killed other ways is ok). Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

So, did that criminal already fall from the 10th floor while trying to escape from the jail in the basement?
Actually, jails should be on the buildings' top floors. Would save a lot of taxpayers' money. |

If the officer had shot him I am sure the headlines would report that the officer shot an unarmed minority

Does the public really not know what actually happens in American prisons? I mean it's like they get their information from folklore and rumor...... |

It's somehow surprising to folks that a thread with contention and differing opinions gets less traffic than one where everyone except one guy that got a warning agrees? |

Actually, when I read the story, I was kind of surprised it was not posted here already. But, given the current anti-cop, 'you can't arrest me', etc climate; sadly, stories like this don't get any play. Plus as an added bonus is the racial element. Had a black officer been attacked by a white man and another white man filmed it and encouraged the attack; could you honestly say this would not be national news with President Obama contacting the victim? |

Isolated incident. And nobody was killed, so this doesn't count in those "LOL! cops lives are less dangerous than fishermen" statistics. Bingo. Alll those other "more dangerous" jobs don't deal with the reality that, although rare, you could be hunted/attacked/killed simply because of the clothes you wear. I wouldn't have done any other job, but there is a distinct difference from being endangered by machinery or a lapse in judgement on the work site versus another human seeking you out to main or kill you. |

I hope he does some serious prison time and I hope the cop is ok.
Did he have a beef with that particular cop or was he just handy? I love the fact that he had a buddy film evidence for the prosecution. Talk about stupid. |
