Kind of getting the itch for a new bow. I swore I would never own a Mathews, but I think I want to try a Mathews.

Bowtech.
But just look at Hoyt, Bowtech, and Mathews and you'll be good. |

Recurve. But only 'cause I fucked up my rotator cuff and the jarring of a compound sucks. Looking at crossbows now.

Mathews No-Cam was pretty hot last year, but there is probably a lot of great stuff out there.

Sitting at the shop waiting for me to set it up. Some seem to love it, some hate it. It's not for the speed queens, but the smoothness, lack of shock and how quiet it is has sold me. Other than that, I hear Hoyt makes a very solid and more advanced bow. |

Really depends on what you like and want. Are you going to use for hunting or target/3D shooting? Want speed? Want easy draw cycle with quiet shot? Lots of variables. Go to a pro shop and try out some bows. There are many good options.
I primarily shoot PSE. But I am looking at an Elite Archery bow for an easy draw and quiet bow for turkey hunting. |

This could be retitled what is your favorite bow - that's what you will get

I shot the Energy 32 a couple months ago and it was amazing. It's the first bow I've shot that made me think about retiring my 05' Mathews LX.
ETA: Elite makes the Energy 32 Chris |

I like Hoyt, been shooting them for 17yrs and have never had a problem. Mathews as a company is too arrogant and I really don't like their designs.

I have a Bear, go to a good archery shop and shoot a bunch and buy what you like.

Go and try different bows all the higher end bows from just about any company will be good. It all depends on what works for you. I'm intrigued by the G5 dual cam bows, but have not gotten a chance to shoot one. Elite are supposedly the easiest shooting bows, with respectable speeds. There's a myriad of new manufacturers out there that have gotten good reviews in the magazines. I'd like to try an APA to see how they shoot, but none of my local shops carry them. |

Hoy Carbon Spyder. Smooth draw, light weight and quite. I use a 30" ata bow for use in a tree stand, otherwise a 34" ata for spot and stalk.

I love my Hoyt but I have shot bows from other companies that I would like to own including Mathews. Saying that I would only own a Hoyt is like saying that I would only own one make of firearm. That isn't going to happen. I have a buddy though, who is a Mathews snob. To him there is no other bow maker that can come close. Whatever
Go and shoot as many different bows as you can. You will know when you get the right one. |

I know nothing about bows. I bought a PSE off amazon web it was on sale for $122 and that's what I've been shooting. Interested to read opinions. |

After being out of archery for over 15 years I'm bowhunting this year. It opens tomorrow . My last bow was bought about 20 years ago, so I had zero loyalties when I started shopping for a new set up. After shooting the Matthews line, Hoyt, Elite, PSE, Mission, Bear, G5, Diamond & Bowtech, I bought a Bowtech. A Carbon Knight. It just felt the best to me out of all the bows I shot. Plus Bowtech is an Oregon company, so that helped too. If I have trouble that my shop can't take of, the factory is 2 hours away. Actually my sights, Spot Hogg & my stabilizer, Spyder archery, are also made here in Oregon. I really don't think you can go wrong with any of the major brands though. If you like Matthews, check out Mission. They are made by Matthews and I really couldn't feel much difference between a $500 Mission & a $1000 Matthews.

I shoot a Bear. I've had it for 8 years and enjoy shooting it. There are better bows out there, but I bought when in college and it was a great price for what it offered at the time. I went to a pro shop and tried different brands, I'm lefty and bear was one of the few brands that didn't cost extra to order in lefty at the time.

So what is better about high end bows? I've only ever had a Martin. The only major concern I've had is the noise at release, but I'm under the impression it's impossible to kill all string twang.

Go to an archery shop and shoot a bit much of them. Get the one you like best.

Speed + Lightweight + Compact + Accuracy + Smoothness = Mathews
disclaimer: I've never fired a Hoyt. The main reason being the Hoyt was generally heavier for the equivalant speed versus Mathews. |

I've owned Hoyt, Matthews, PSE and Bowtech.
My Bowtech was by far the smoothest shooting, quietest and most accurate bow. |

I don't know shit about crossbows but I found this video interesting.
