An acquaintance of my GF won a CRX in a raffle back in December.  When we started dating in March, I always remarked on how this certain Honda in her apartment complex looked like a freaking time machine.   Turns out it was completely restored before being given away: new paint, new seats, headliner, carpet, etc.  I sat in the car months ago(it was unlocked the whole time) and was blown away at the interior and overall condition. I know nothing about the drivetrain of the car, except that whatever is wrong, I will fix it.

The girl is 100% clueless about the car, doesn't need it, and needs some money. The car has been sitting since February, collecting dust.  I have not tried to turn the car over, jump it or anything.  She just called and asked my GF if I was still interested in the car and she asked for $300 to help with bills.  The car is worth more than that, but I'm in no place to be extremely charitable so I offered her $100 more than she needed.

My bet is bad battery, or fuel pump, or something small.  She couldn't even describe to me the circumstances surrounding the car's failure.  For all I know, she doesn't know how to drive a stick.

Anyway I am picking it up tomorrow afternoon, and will provide pics.  I will use it as a grocery getter to save gas, and I have never been so excited about purchasing a Honda lol.

So GD, what do you think is wrong with it?

It looks like this except black/grey with red stripe:

Worst case: Broken timing chain, bent valves.

Which I could still come out ahead if I sold it right away for $1k.  The car is SO clean that someone would want it for a swap.  If I did that, I'd probably help her out a little more on the price, but if it runs and I don't immediately sell it for a profit, I'll just drive the damn thing into the ground.

I can't imagine anything is seriously wrong with the car, the way the rest of it was overhauled, but who knows?

I had an 86, the body style above, in the Si version.  It was pretty beat up by the time I got it but it was a hell of a fun car.

No power steering on 'em though, and that might be the only "problem".

Nah man, I am spending $100+ a week on gas right now  If its too big of a headache, I MIGHT sell it, but I am pretty sure I could lift a B16 by myself to drop it in haha.

haha cool thanks.  Never been a Honda guy.  Only Honda's I have owned were 2 wheeled or had an A badge.  If I fall in love with it, it will get lowered(not slammed) and tinted.

I plan on bringing a small tool box, jump box and fuel pressure gauge. If this is like 99% of other cars, a fuel pressure relay will be interchangeable with A/C or something else, right?

Come to think of it, she said it wasn't towed, so it MUST have ran before being parked.  Dead battery for sho.

Easiest way to tell is the tail emblem.  They get stolen a lot though.

The HF would give you 50 highway, but the SI would do 40+ and was very rewarding of things like drafting in overdrive.  It's still only 90hp, but in a car under a ton with a decent five speed it aint bad at all.

Bring a black light to check the seats and headliner.

Don't know why, but I like the CRX.

I haven't seen one around in ages though for some reason.

Probably worth dropping an engine in for the extra horsepower.

Throw in a brown top ZC motor and it's a fun little car. You would be surprised how fast it feels with that zc in it. look around for an old Integra and grab the motor. B16 or any of the DOHC vtecs are a mother fucker to get to work in that car.

I worked at a Honda dealership when these things where new.
They are a great little car. We didn't sell many though because back in the day insurance companies classified them as sports cars because they only had two seats so unless you were an old fart with a good driving record the insurance rates kept the younger crowd from buying them.

I don't know if it is.  It just shares the paint scheme of the car in the OP, I can't recall focusing on the front end and lights enough to know the difference.
