I was afraid of this, with the very dry spring and summer we've had this year. |

Fires burning all over Washington, smoke in the air, Twisp & Winthrop are my backyard. |

Still sucks. Two co-workers ore out there, and one family friend is deployed as a service tech for the helos. Rest in peace brothers. |

So many fires in WA and ID that they don't even have enough people to fight some of them so let them burn. Smoke is bad.
Condolences for the families. |

Wash is getting hammered by high winds and low humidity right now, the firefighters were joined by National Guard Members within the last day or two.

Fuck I have a friend from HS that's been over there for months
And my co worker is at his annual family camping trip over there right now, he called me an hour ago saying he's running back to camp to tell everyone that there has been an evacuation order and he might not be into work tomorrow because of the closures |

Can someone explain the downsides of letting these burn? And I'm talking about instances other than property?

Any word where the casualties were from?
Lots of big project fires across the west. God Speed to those working those fires. |
|
Just heard it on the news.
Any idea on the department, organization they were affiliated with? Big fire in Lewis County today, in western WA, called in help from all over according to news. |

Multiply that pic by the dozens all over the NW and some of them are combining.

RIP. And just after that Argentine firefighters video too. :-(

Flight back from Houston to SEA last thursday, I could smell the smoke in the cabin as we descended to land. It's a bad bad season this year.
RIP firefighters |

The smoke from those fires is creating a noticeable haze here along the Colorado River in western Colorado

I think this the 6th day of national preparedness level of 5, meaning for the most part all resources are being used and/or in rest cycle sit report |

Not a lot...fire plays a huge role in a healthy forest. I remember reading that a healthy forest is something like 2 trees/acre, when they become too dense (as many are) the underbrush robs moisture and nutrients from the trees. It becomes very dangerous once the fire climbs hot and creates its own air currents. Then there is high possibility of the fire jumping as it did with Waldo canyon here in CO. That fire jumped whole canyons. Maybe a firefighter can weigh in with more info? |

The news reports are that the FF's were US Forest Service, a 4th FF was flown to the Seattle burn unit at Harborview Hospital

RIP
We have this sort of thing going on, and yet we still have idiots throwing lit cigarettes out of their vehicles. I've seen a half dozen burned patches from that in the last week or two. |
|
The last news report said their vehicle crashed, and then they were over run by the fire.
|
|
I was actually surprised this hadn't happened yet given the number and size of the fires.
|
|
Fuck! Flags should go to half staff. These guys are heros. If you dont believe it spend a week on the line and get back to me. RIP.
