Don't project your mental and emotional instability on me |

I never seem to have a good response handy when I need one, and there are so many non-gun owners in CA that it comes up a lot. Through a series of conversations, a guy at work that I've known for decades found out yesterday that I'm a shooter. His response: "...remind me not to piss YOU off..." As if the revelation was going to cause his sudden imminent death . While I realize it's 'just an expression' and I shouldn't necessarily be offended...I am. I really wanted to drop something on him that would make him realize the stupidity of his statement, but I had nothing ready to go. Them: "Man, remind me not to piss YOU off haha!"
Me "Do you own a camera?" They'll go at the obvious non-sequitur. Them: "Uh, yeah, why?" Me: "So you're a child pornographer then, right?" Them: Sputter, sputter, well I never... Me: "You just accused me of being a nasty, evil, psychotic, horrible human being because of an object I own. I'm just returning the favor." ETA: There's also the alternate comment you'll get if they find out you've got guns and even a day's worth of preps: "Man, when the world goes to hell, I'm coming to your house!" My answer is always "What makes you think I'll be accepting visitors?" |

"I don't use a gun to kill people. Too quick. You can't see the life leave their eyes from so far away. That's why I use a knife. I want to see them die. I want the taste of their blood on my lips. I want to bathe in it!"

It's a common issue...the biggest Hoplophobes and most vocal ones are also the ones who are visibly lacking in ANY Kind of self Control......who also get REALLY Pissy when you call them on it... Which amusingly proves your point...which makes them MORE pissy, it's a cycle you can work for a while if you can use sarcasm effectively ..Anyway my usual answer to the "Remind me not to make you mad' Idiots is something along the lines of, "You would actually have to matter to be capable of making me angry" |

We got a new senior project manager about six months ago who seems to get hysterical about people owning guns. He found out that I'm a shooter after a couple months (I think the reloading press on my desk may have given me away) and asked to see some pics of ones I was working on... and went straight to the "OMG! M16's!!!! How did you even get those??!!", "It's frightening that I work in the same office with someone who has an arsenal that size!!", "..what if you go crazy one day!!?"....... I'm just left there looking at him like
Then he goes to our VP and asks him how I can be allowed to work for the company when I have and assemble so many guns - citing Scary Black Rifles. The VP responds something like, "wat? I shoot more than he does.. hell, he helped me pick out my last shotgun." Then one of the other managers overheard and came in to ask how my new 9mm AR was coming along. New guy's face went to straight horror when he realized he works in an office full of gun owners |
|
My favorite line:
I would never hurt you but you are making the voices angry. Or: I prefer cold steel for kinnin' so much more satisfying. Or: You should be nicer to me, say...ya got a pretty mouth. One big guy said that he would just take my gun from me. I told that he could try, but he would only get one piece at a time. |

Here, use this comeback:
"The jerk store called...... and they're running out of you!" The guy's wife isn't in a coma is she? |
|
|
I go the route of asking why they would feel that way.
And then I tell them that responsible law abiding people like myself are not the ones they should be worrying about. |
|
Ive received that from a few people. I guess it's better policy to not let them know to begin with.
|
|
Say, "OK"
Then get your smart phone out and send them a daily reminder on their calendar "don't piss off Hollywood_Shooter". |
|
"You should see what I can do with Microsoft Excel."
It diffuses the situation and segues into my tactical Excel/VBA Jedi-ness so I can self-promote and possibly acquire more freelance work. |
