My son is very, very black. My wife and I are very, very white.
Racism is repulsive and we hear it all. If we can go a full week without someone commenting on the color of my children, their race, or why we adopted two kids outside of our race ... we consider it a miracle and buy a lotto ticket. My daughter's skin is caramel colored, but my son is extremely dark. He's been called a struck match, a tar-baby, nappy headed licorice and the list goes on and on and on and on. I think my personal favorite was when a son of a bitch wondered aloud if cremating my son would result in 'coal dust.' You laughing? Yeah, we think it's super funny as well.
Anyone who thinks that racism isn't alive and well --- I happily invite you to spend some time in my shoes. The ONLY defense we have is prayer. We aren't going to lower ourselves to their standards so teaching our kids about God's love and the Devil's hate is the nicest way to explain that racist people are shit stains. |
