Folks,
I have been avoiding this thread (obviously) because my DIRT project went to hell. The longer I went without replying to you guys, the harder it became to come back. Which is really shitty of me as so many fine and generous folks here were nice enough to assist me and would have appreciated at least an update. I owe all of you a sincere apology. I did not intend to get you all interested and then abandon updating everyone on the project. And that is exactly what I did. As far as an update goes, my son's teacher did not do the project until the very end of the year, and it was nothing like I thought it would be. each student made a poster board that had a tiny ziploc of dirt. They were all nicely labeled with the state. My son and the entire class did appreciate all of the samples and additional treats that were sent (postcards, stickers and such). I do appreciate everyone that did help out, and I am sorry I dropped the ball. I respectfully hope that all of you accept my apology - you deserved much more than I gave. I feel dirty about this whole thing Special dump on OP thread |

Farmland, riverbed, whatever works for you! You would be doing me a favor! IM sent... I think if I look hard enough, I might be able to find some. The only place it's any bit difficult is the Black Hills, otherwise, flat as a pancake fields. Some people call it "scenic". <shrug> --ETA: The dirt I got you is the about the same as you'd get from South West MN or North West IA, a member on the other side of the state might get you some from the Black Hills, which is a bit different. |

Ohio is covered. I hope you can get all 50 states. Bumping for dirt!

If I read correctly you have Alabama covered. If not IM me. Would be really cool for your son if he received a pkg from one of our deployed members with some sand from the sand box along with the GPS readout of where the sample was taken. He could 'Show n Tell' at school but the sand would be for his personal collection of whatever boys his age collect these days.

I saw someone else post from Oklahoma but let me know if you still need a sample from the NW part of OK.
