Doesn't seem right. I'm willing to bet Alaskan gun ownership is in the mid to high 80% range. Even the liberals own guns up here.

Well, I am going to assume this graph is 100% accurate, because I read it on the interwebs. Let's take this walk down logic lane... Gun ownership is an indicator of conservatism. California has more guns than Nebraska. Hence, Nebraska is more liberal than LA. GO! View Quote Hawaii and New Mexico. Bastions of democratic voters. |

Why would anybody think that there was any accuracy to this what so ever ?
How did they arrive at these numbers ? Where did the information come from ? |

80 people from each state is clearly enough to extrapolate to the whole population of the state.
What a shit fucking study. |

The researchers used data from a 2013 online survey of 4,000 people over age 18 from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Participants were selected to be representative of the U.S. population as a whole. Here's the link to where they got their information: http://injuryprevention.bmj.com/content/early/2015/06/09/injuryprev-2015-041586.full.pdf?keytype=ref&ijkey=doj6vx0laFZMsQ2 Notice this part: The prevalence of national gun ownership was 29.1% among the 4000 survey participants, varying from 5.2% in Delaware to 61.7% in Alaska (figure 3). Gun ownership was the lowest in Northeast states, while south US census-defined states had highest rates. View Quote The person who did the survey: Bindu Kalesan. She does papers and statistics for anti-gun sources. What she says about the survey here. (copied in caps, sorry) ANYONE FROM THE AGE OF 18 AND WE ASKED THEM GOOD GUN OWNERSHIP SO THEY ANSWERED THAT THEY OWN AT LEAST ONE GUN. YOU GOT TO KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS A QUESTION FOR EACH PERSON, NOT THE HOUSEHOLD SURVEY. SO THEY SAID YES TO GUN OWNERSHIP THAT THEY OWN AT LEAST ONE GUN THEN THEY WERE CLASSIFIED OR CATEGORIZED AS A GUN OWNER View Quote ETA: oops I see someone already touched on that. |

The map is from a very short article by Andy Kiersz and Brett LoGiurato, a couple of anti-gun leftists at the click-bait website, Business Insider . The researchers conducted the survey of 4,000 adults in an attempt to answer the question of how many Americans own a firearm — and why — amid a lack of overall data and statistics on gun ownership. They found a broad regional variation in gun ownership — from as low as near 5% in some areas to as much as 66% in others. In individual states, this ranged from 5.2% ownership in Delaware to 61.7% in Alaska. Here's a map illustrating their results: The data is from a study, Gun Ownership and Social Gun Culture, conducted by the equally anti-gun Bindu Kalesan and Marcos D Villarreal of the School of Public Health, Columbia University, New York and the School of Public Health, Boston University, Boston, MA. The full PDF of the "study" is here In their conclusion, the authors wrote that they found a "strong association between social gun culture and gun ownership. Gun cultures may need to be considered for public health strategies that aim to change gun ownership in the USA." And FBHO. IMHO, this is one of the ways they will end up attacking gun ownership in the US. Along with taxation of ammo and reloading components, onerous "safety" regulation of "hazardous materials" (lead and gunpowder) regarding reloading/ shooting and the required use of approved shooting ranges except for hunting, and changes to insurance and liability rules for insurance coverage associated with shooting ranges. This will drive up the costs of ownership for firearms owners, and run many (most?) shooting ranges out of business except for those who can attract those shooters who can afford to pay the outrageous membership fees. "Hey - we're just concerned with your safety, we aren't saying you can't own guns." |

I am proud of the 50% of Mountaineers' smart enough to tell them they don't own guns. Lots of boat wrecks in a state with no natural lakes.
I just need it for squirrels and sech. |

SC is a very gun friendly state. I seriously doubt we are under 50% ownership.

Arizona has 239,259 CCW permits alone.
Population is 6.7million. How many are illegals? How many don't have a CCW in a state that doesn't require it? How many don't have one to start with? ETA: oh I see, it was a bullshit sample size |

Is that based on 4473`s or nicz or what? View Quote I would assume it was a survey and a very small sampling. I would also assume most people when asked if they "own" a gun they probably only indicated they have a small amount or they didn't own any at all. I would bet that the percentages are much higher including in highly restrictive states. I for one would say I do not own guns simply because I don't know the person on the other side of the phone, you know social engineering and all. |

35% of Texas? Really? Texas is going liberal faster than any other state. For all the chest thumping, Texas is a coont hair from going blue. Take mexicans, and whorehouses out of the equation, and there wouldn't be much of a Texas. Huh? Texas is going further to the right. Maybe in 20 years when Cali has finally emptied into Austin and Dallas. Texas is still very rural and they vote overwhelmingly republican, now that being said republican really doesn't mean what it ment 20 or so years ago. |
