Regional terminology? Generally a layover is under 4 hours or so. Though I don't see how 5 hours is really a break in the journey given how long security takes anymore. |

Think of it as entering the former DDR with a firearm, legality doesn't matter.
Here's an attorney who handles JFK and La Guardia gun arrests just in case. I know a guy who's the son of a federal marshal that got busted. He got off 10 grand short and lost his pistol.

I keep up with these things, and have never heard of this. I've flown through Chicago and Newark with handguns in checked bags without any issues. Second - who the hell talks to police in NYC? |

The correct plea when apprehended in possesion of an "illegal" gun in NYC is "attempted possession of a firearm in the third degree".
