Just like the title sez.  Was kicking this around in my head this week, since I've been dredging up alot of dreck from my crappy childhood in my on-going recovery therapy.  One fact kept leaping out at me: why the FUCK do so many people want the goobermint to be their fucking mommy and daddy?

By and large, I absolutely LOATHED my childhood.  Yeah, there were innocent, carefree fun times, but mostly I was yanked around from pillar to post, moved from state to state without having any say in the matter, had NO control over where I lived, what I did, and who I was forced to associate with.  Frankly, many parts of my childhood were a living fucking hell.  Why in fuck, as a grown adult, would I want someone again having total control over me, dictating where I live, what I do, and who I am forced to associate with?

Tho I accept many are also simply lazy.  Believe me, I know; cutting your own path is DAMN hard work:

And there is that factor too.  As much as your life utterly sux under commienism, you don't have to make those hard choices of what you want to be when you grow up; that decision has already been made FOR you.  You simply show up when & where you are told, put your shoulder to the wheel, and push when ordered.  Then you clock out, go to the pub for a pint with your friends, and go home to your state-provided hovel.  Simple & safe.  A sigline here nails it:

In that same vein, one of the things that has always puzzled me is why the animated TV series "Archer" has always made my gut clench.  Everyone else thinks it's sooooo funny, when it just about makes me want to vomit blood.  Finally I realized why: it's because I've LIVED that shit!  I've LIVED what it is like to have the officials, my parents, the principal at my school, even the town cops themselves, being stupid and incompetent and petty and drunk, with me forced to just put up with their abuse and stupidity.  Why the fuck would I want to go back to that???

So what does the Hivemind think?  Please feel free to poke holes in my theory.  I'm pretty sure no one can question the obviously true fact that loving commienism is just giving up all responsibility for running your own life, and letting Mommy and Daddy take care of you, forever.

I grew up in a two parent, stable household. My parents are still married and I'm close to them.

My parents made my brother and I earn an allowance and buy our own clothes as kids.

We both stopped playing sports at 16 so we could get jobs to buy our own cars. We both paid for or own college.

I can say I had a pretty happy childhood. (My brother would say the same.)

I have never seen the show Archer.

I think communists/socialists/progressives represent the biggest threat to the survival of this Republic and should be thrown in an active volcano.

It is spelled "communism."

If you look at many urban centers, I can guarantee that you'll find lots of people who gravitate towards socialism whose childhoods sucked major ass.

Then why do they pine for Mommy & Daddy to take over their lives???  Knew a Latino guy who was STOKED for "free" healthcare!!!  There was nothing I could do to convince him of the fact that, "Anything FREE you get, is worth EXACTLY what you PAID for it!!!"

You are projecting your shitty childhood on everyone else to make a sweeping generalization.

FYI: There are no shortage of derpy "unless your kids shovel pig shit from sunrise to sunset like muh grand papppy they will grow up to be communists" BS around here.

had an awesome childhood and by the age of 15 was aware of communism and despised it,I worked off and on through high school to buy new dirtbikes/tires,gas and ins for my car.

my parents had religious beliefs but we didnt go to church,I formed my own beliefs which the Christian religion seems to fit fairly well.

both of my parents worked and we were probably considered upper middle class,my mom had quit working when my brother and I were born and didnt go back to work until my younger brother had started HS.

if OP wants to paint happy childhoods as breeding grounds for socialism i think he's smoking crack

When people get high on hope and change, reality comes at the cost of harsh and bitter withdrawal effects.

The school systems are fucking this up. They're perpetuating the indoctrination that inevitably leads directly to this dead end road of hope and change.

The FSA will vote for their own financial and social interests.

Many people are out of touch with reality. They're stuck in their own world.

Many people are stupid. Many don't have a decent background in the historical nature of socialism or communism.

The powers that be will stop at nothing to get what the want.

There are a shit load of other things. Almost too many to mention.

I don't think it is based on quality of childhood, nor even on being lazy.

socialist/communists are mainly people who think one way about something, and they want to force everyone to do it their way.  Think about the militant vegan who is a socialist.  That's a great way to make everyone stop eating meat, something market forces and freedom will forever otherwise allow.  Of course a communist socialist state may well do the opposite, mass produce meat to give a small amount to every worker,  but as the person in question can't even comprehend someone disagreeing with them they just assume the totalitarian gvt would agree with everything they agree with and basically force their utopia on everyone.

People who belief in freedom realize that other people might be looking a more facts, different facts, or just weigh certain facts as more important, and come to a different logical conclusion than them.  So who would want to risk having that person in charge forcing their interpretation onto us?  Also, others may just be plain wrong because they are dumb or ignorant or stubborn or whatever, but that's their own business too, so let em be, but sure as heck don't let them get in charge and force their stupidity on all of us!

Sounds like another fine theory shot down in flames.

Is this not the show that has the officials running this government agency, all of whom are retarded or petty or childish?  Or drunk?  Thanks, I've already lived that.  I guess the "humor" is kind of lost on me.

ISIS wasn't a government agency.

Also it's a cartoon comedy, it's so hyperbolic I can't see how it would evoke some childhood PTSD.

Unless you worked for your mom's PMC and your code name was "Duchess".

Without reading much, I would think this has to do with parents giving the child(ren) anything and everything and not making them work for it. I think that could definitely influence a child to support the type of government that could effectively replace their parents in the "give me shit without earning it" area.

I think these two posts might be closer to the truth than I got with my theory.
