Stupid fucker thinks that the slaves would still have been freed in the British Empire if they'd retained the Americas. LOL...

Here's a clue, fucktwat: The cotton grown in the South would have meant a considerable constituency for slavery would have existed in England, namely all the textile interests. When they did away with it, the Caribbean slavery was on its way out, economically--So, it was easy to do. The cotton textile industry would have actually given slavery a fresh breath of air, and a bunch of people interested in perpetuating it. Odds of Merry Olde England freeing slaves, when so many fortunes depended on the availability of cheap cotton? Nil.

If anything, his fantasy would lead to longer, more widespread slavery. Some textile mill owner would have had William Wilberforce knocked over the head in an alley somewhere.

These dimwits never think past the first-order effects of their little fantasies.

From wiki:

In late January 2014, Klein and Matthews announced that they, along with Matthew Yglesias and Melissa Bell, would be starting a new online media venture with Vox Media.[1] The venture, named Vox.com, launched in early April 2014,[9] and Matthews wrote his first article for the site in April 2014.[10][11] (That first article was about new scientific research which turned out to be fraudulent, and 13 months later he wrote a mea culpa article about the fraud and how he was deceived by it.[12])

If it had been independently published work documenting the scarcity of combs and hairbrushes following the American Revolution, and the subsequent banishment of the remaining hair grooming implements to Oklahoma when Jackson marched the indians out there, I could fault him for not figuring it out.

But, this was a paper published in Science, which one would expect to be sufficiently peer-reviewed by people who can math.

Dylan can't math .. or grow facial hair.  If Dylan is actually a chick [you never can tell with these names], then I offer her my heartfelt apology, because it's widely known that chicks can't math and would only be plagued by sparse patches of facial hair because of some medical condition.

In the UK, the Conservative government decided it wanted a carbon tax. So there was a carbon tax. Just like that. Passing big, necessary legislation — in this case, legislation that's literally necessary to save the planet — is a whole lot easier with parliaments than presidential systems.

And if the South was part of England and had slaves, maybe slavery would not have been abolished by the Brits.  You cannot change one point in history and assume what happened would still have happened. Perhaps slavery would still exist.

Eh, not even amusing in an ironic sort of way.

Once you get past the pretty trimmings of "tolerance" and "charity", liberals can't wrap their lips around the steely phallus of governmental force fast enough.  Doesn't really matter who it is, as long as they promise "progress" and want to kill anyone who stands in the way.

Lol. Good stuff. British govt is stupid, but it's people seem to rock.

Also, what is it with Canada. I think I've met one Canadian, but I love em all. It's a weird national bromance. Maybe because our cultures are similar, and we are neighbors? And of course they are a bazillion times better than the country to our south.....

The case for a mixed government with a regal head rather than a republican one can very well be made.  A monarchy of that sort may well be preferable, provided the monarch's powers were roughly analogous to those of the President, and not virtually nil by law or in practice. That's certainly not enough of a reason, though, to consider the revolution a mistake.

But the article's author's reasons for preferring monarchy are .  Figurehead "rule" is a sort of perversion and negation of the concept.

The rest of his case against the revolution is also .  Basically, his argument, which may not have as much validity as he seems to think, is that the Leftist ideal would be closer to realization here had there been no revolution.  He has no love for any of the ideals upon which not only this country, but really contemporary British constitutionalism, were based.

Yes. They personify that hate in many things. They feel self righteousness by standing 'against' those things. Their world view depends on having bogeymen, so that they can be heroes.

They're really just tilting at windmills.
